o2 and alleged default

I am not really sure where to put this, its regarding a mobile phone account with O2.

I am still with o2 but on getting my free online credit report today it shows I have defaulted on an agreement with them, the date of the default on the report is 16/2/11.

I called o2 who were useless. After much digging it relates to a bill from August 2010 which they claim was not paid. They said an invoice was raised and sent but my direct debit must have failed so I still owe them this (btw it is not a huge amount only £32) I have never defaulted in my life, I am never late with payments and I just don't understand how this can be the case.

I have had no correspondence from them between the alleged missed payment and me calling them today to find out why I was showing as defaulting.

They told me that I had to send a letter to the credit agency to resolve this!? And I had to prove the payment had been made.

Advice?

Get your bank statement and prove?
That said, it is not clear why it was a 'default', not, say, a late payment. If the DD failed they should have collected a bigger amount next month unless you cancelled the DD.
  • I don't have bank statements (online so only back as far as April 2011) have phoned the bank (Santander) today and they have a DD going through for a different amount the same day for o2, I don't know if this is for the alleged default but they are sending out the statement for me.

Think whats more annoying is I have had an account with them continuosly so why was I not sent a reminder etc if I did indeed miss the payment?

My regular monthly bill from o2 comes out the account every month with no issue and like you say why was next direct debit not just bigger? There has never been an outstanding amount showing on bills.

If I manage to get the proof should it not be O2 I write too and note the credit agency (like O2 advised)?

I think it is O2 who has to make the correction:
Some of my account information is wrong. How do I get it changed?

If they refuse and you think that they are wrong you can possibly discuss this with the CRA.
