Would you inform neighbours?

Hello,

Just thought id ask some advice.. Our downstairs ceilings are being pulled down this weekend (lime and lathe) our neighbour is not very nice tried to build on our land, now ignores us (long story).. I would normally out of politeness put a note thru the door as it will be quite noisy..but i have a feeling it will make matters worse .. what to do? and how early can we start this work? There will be alot dust out of our windows 2 and we are part of a terrace..just want to do the right thing really:beer:

  • i've got simlear nice neighbours, No matter what my neighbours have done (involving chucking glass in my garden and telling me i should move) I would treat them how i would like to be treated myslef.

I would put a note through the door and potenially defuse a situtation on the day you are having work.

I think the "quiet" times are 11pm to 7 am. But if they are aware i would treat it like a normal working day and start at 9am. Which i think is reasonable.

No doubt they will complain anyway by the sounds of it..

I always put notes through neighbours doors prior to having any work done to apologise for any noise and disturbance in advance. I think it is only common courtesy and feel really annoyed if a neighbour fails to show the same consideration.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

I guess there will also be a skip for the waste, so politeness would say you inform your neighbours if that may cause a temporary problem.

If you are having a skip, getting it in a couple of days early and placing it in a prominent position might actually do the alerting for you.

Followed up by a polite note, you will have effectively pulled his plug, though I'm sure an old grump who has already tried one unsuccessful landgrab will find something to carp and create about.

I would put a note through.

The general 'rule' is that site hours are normally 8am to 5 pm Monday to Sat, but I don't normally start doing any really noisy stuff until 8.30 am if I can help it.

You have to get the work done at some point. If neighbours complain, I apologise profusely but then politely point out that if they let me get on with the work, the noise will be over sooner and better for all!

If you were planning on doing this out side 'working hours' I would tell them. Otherwise I would just do it. UNLESS it is bbq season and you think you will be putting dust in the neighbours garden.

My neighbours have never told me when they are doing drilling / other loud diy etc and it hasnt bothered me at all (and it happens regularly as every 6 months the next door tenents move and the house needs redoing EVERY time... wonder why renters get a bad name lol)

Forget notes. Go and speak to them.

    what to do?

Ask the builders to wind-up the volume on their radio with some nice drum'n'bass while crashing about pulling down the ceiling.
