Sky have not charged for Sky + for at least four years. Maybe you should rethink your requirements.
The standard box now Sky+HD. You can view the free to air HD channels on it without an HD subscription.

This isn't true, Sky won't charge for the pause/recording functions of the box provided that you have some form of contract with them. If you have no contract, and use a card for FTA channels - Sky will charge about £10/month for the recording ability.

Recording is "free" for subscribers only.

The OP is a Sky subscriber, therefore would not pay extra for Sky+.
I was replying in that context, but thanks for the pedantry.;)
That gum you like is coming back in style.

    Update
A frustration and concentration headache because the Sky person who dealt with me had to be asked 10 times (easily) to repeat themselves because their heavily accented voice was delivered at a gabble . Repeated requests for her to slow down , gave only seconds of relief before she reverted to her original mach 1 speed.
Im surprised Sky doesnt realize that this could lose them new customers .Anyone ringing who hadnt done the research first, to know pretty much what they wanted and how much it should cost, could easily have given up and been tipped over into settling for Freesat or something.
Anyway, I got there eventually and YAY! Its HD multiroom with free box and installation coming next week.
Many thanks all for your help

Calbacks-the boxes periodically 'call home' via the built in modem to confirm that they are both connected to the same number. If the callbacks fail, then Sky will bill you the full amount for 2 separate subs, as it will be assumed that one box is being used at another address.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
