Apple mac software....£££££PC Software...£££Linux software..£0 -
A hard drive failure is not a valid reason for binning the PC-it's easily replaced. A processor is also replaceable-if that's what you mean by 'chip'.
I've had laptops where there is a fault on the chipset so it won't even recognise a drive is there. By the time you factor in a new mainboard it becomes not financially viable on a laptop a few years old.0 -
As gonzo says the Bluray enabled Revo is probably double the width, and you'll be able to connect it to a TV aerial and use it as a media centre as well. If I was to get the more expensive one thats what I would use it for.0

Of course you are. Itunes is a good example.
There is no hiding the fact that apple want you to just buy apple products. Apple can't compete properly with others so need the monopoly. Once you're in apples reality distortion field its real hard to get out.Notmyrealname wrote: »But works. BTW, if its free for Windows, its free for Mac.
But works less - usually due to driver issues and the like.
Usually because it is so poor you wouldn't dare charge for it.
You really have no clue do you :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: You enjoying the reality distortion field then?0 -

You really do talk some rubbish!
I use Winamp on my Mac and there are plenty of other alternatives to iTunes if you want them. Don't write iTunes off though, it's a different beast on an Apple than it is on a PC.
Along with alternates to other Apple software. I use GIMP which is free and Photoshop Elements for my pictures instead of the included iPhoto.
I also use Microsoft Office and Outlook on my Mac for no other reason that I use them at work and see no reason to use anything else.
There are three types of idiot people need to be aware of;
Microsoft hating Apple fanboys
Apple hating Microsoft fanboys
Apple & Microsoft hating linux fanboys
A PC, and I'm using the term to mean Personal Computer, is a personal choice. Getting a machine that does what you want is the right choice for you, who makes it is doesn't matter.
I'd like to add another plus for the Acer Revo. I got a Revo R3700 for a friend who's needs were pretty close to yours. I got one with Windows pre-installed as it was what she was used to and I couldn't persuade her to try Linux. She loves it because it suits her needs and it's small. I fixed it to the back of her monitor and she liked it even more. :T
Don't let the fact that you have an Android phone put you off a Mac. I have an iMac and recently swapped my iPhone 3 for a Samsung Galaxy S2, I fancied a change and contrary to what some people will tell you not all Mac owners are idiot fanboys who will only buy Apple kit. :rotfl:
I plugged it into the iMac and it works every bit as well as the iPhone for sync of contacts, calender, music and everything else. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -

Luckily I don't fit into any of the but thanks for the warning. I just hate apple fanboys.A PC, and I'm using the term to mean Personal Computer, is a personal choice. But in case you were replying to me here my android phone doesn't put me of macs. Apple puts me off macs with their anti-competitive business model, lack of choice, price markups on underpowered hardware and reality the distortion field.0 -
No choice of what?
Apple is a company that jealously guards it's proprietary systems and software, and decides how you can use them. One branding, one design and no third party licensing to allow for design evolution. Slow upgrade turn around.
I don't like being told what to do with the stuff I've bought.
And even though I don't buy apple they seem to want to tell everyone else what to do by suing anyone who makes rectangular phones with rounded corners and trying to force ebook prices up high.
Not a company I want to do business with.0 -

I have got an Apple and they've never told me what to do with it. I use it just like any other PC I've ever owned.
How do they tell you what to do with their stuff?
All companies protect their products and all companies would rather you didn't buy anyone else's product, they all want to maximize their sales, after all they aren't charities they exist to make money for the people that own them. Look at the other big players who've been in court for trying to take over the market or put competition out of business, they all want the biggest slice of the cake.
Why is it wrong to protect your proprietary products and systems?
I have no problem with you, or anyone else, not wanting to do business with Apple, or any other company but you should at least approach things with an open mind. But as Professor Richard Dawkins said "Not so open that you brain falls out."
ebooks are a difficult issue and one I don't pretend to understand but what I do find hard to understand is how Amazon can charge more for some of their ebooks than they do for the paper version.
Apple might be centre stage in this fight at the moment but I think it's really the publishers that are running scared, after all if ebooks take off in a really big way and paper books go into decline publishers will go out of business, authors will still write and the world will still get their books but in a different form. Some authors might make a lot of money but their publisher makes far more.
Publishers are frightened that books with go the same way as music, a book can only be in one persons hands at any one time and is difficult to make a decent copy. An ebook can be copied and passed around the world via the Internet in moments.
Take any 1000 people with and MP3 player, I wonder what percentage of the music would be illegal downloads.
Take any 1000 people reading a book, I wonder what percentage would be illegal photocopies. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -

That's funny....
Bought my old MacBook 5 years ago and it is still so good the battery lasts 4 hours still!
We use it every day without fail. And even now, if I have an issue, I can walk into an apple and get free help.... When it breaks, I will buy a MacBook Pro! Best computer for durability and longevity (on a side note, have had various windows laptops and all failed under 2 years....)0
