Hello everyone. Welcome to the Weekly Spend Challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.

On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. The challenge runs from Sunday to Friday so we don't include Saturdays but feel free to change the rules to suit you and include Saturdays or start on a different day.

Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track. We colour code the results as below:

Green - within budget

Red - overbudget
Purple - zero spend
Orange - made money over the week

This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever.

Moozie was the founder of this challenge and here is a quote taken from her:

The challenge is about incidental spending and not for stuff that should be budgeted elsewhere such as bills, groceries, debt repayment etc but you decide what to include at the end - this is about changing your habits and improving your recording of your spends more than anything else. Have a great week everyone and keep it low!!! Moozie x"

Good luck everyone.

    Evening all

I am a bit late setting up the new thread so apologies. I have been away to visit the family this weekend and I got back really late (my flight was delayed )

Anyway I was green last week and this week is pay day so I need to try and make a good go at budgeting this month and saving as much as I can as we go away is in about 6 weeks.

I am going for £40 this week. I don't have much on other than going to see Jeff Dunham tomorrow night (OH's xmas present). Luckily my sister had bought us a voucher for dinner so we are going to use that before the show so hopefully no spends there. Not much on for the rest of the week but I am going to try and take lunch with me as that seems to be the key to staying on track. I have lunch for tomorrow and Wednesday sorted already.

I have updated all the results and pledges from the last thread. Let me know if there are anymore or if I have missed anything. Have a good night everyone.

    Hi all,

I've been reading all the threads with something like excitement bubbling around :) How does this challenge work? Do I include my bills in it or just general everyday spending?

  • Hiya Nitamcc and welcome.

The basis is of this challenge is you set an amount on a Sunday for the folllowing week. This amount is to cover incidental spends and for things that are not budgeted elsewhere.

You can make the challenge individual to you and to fit around your circumstances.

I personally have everything budgeted for down to every penny. then whatever i have left in my account i usually divide between the weeks in the month. Usually around £20 per week. Although if i know i have an evening out then i take a bit from another week, and have a quieter week the next week. Although i still try to have as much of that £20 left as possible.

Other people literally buy everthing they need and cover all bills, then set a much smaller amount, i am sure others have been known to set a larger amount but this has to cover weekly bills and groceries.

It really is just to make you think about what you buy each week, whether you need it etc and then hopefully have a bit more to put towards debts, savings or treats.

Hope that makes sense and hope to see you back. :D

    Hi all

I'm so sorry for my absence... I've had such a busy week last week and then this weekend, I don't know where the time has gone!

So sorry for being inconsistent but I will now be trying my hardest to be good!

Horribly, brutally, red last week unfortunately!

This week, Sunday I had Wagamama's £20, bought a set of fossil books in Bristol Museum (blatently marked wrong but the woman let me have this price) £3.50, milkshake for me and friend £5.70, small food shop not counted. Then yesterday I had another teeny food shop and also £6.15 + £3.35 + £7 in pub.

I really need to sort myself out. This weekend was an exception as I had my friend down from London but still!

I have exactly £15.10 in my purse to last through till Monday when I get paid.

So this week my budget is £55, which includes what I've already spent and leaves me £9.30 till end of play Friday!

    Sun 22 Apr:
Wagamama's £20, fossil books £3.50, milkshake for me and friend £5.70 = TOTAL £29.20
Mon 23 Apr: Pub £16.50

    Total so far: £45.70 / £55
    :eek::eek::eek:

Hope everyone is having an ok week so far!

    Hey all :j

Great to hear how everyone is doing - it's encouraging! Am glad to say I am having a better week... I think being back at work is good for me, as less opportunity to spend!!!

So far: £21.26 some nice food plus additional groceries for the week as had a friend over + £2.00 treat for me

    = £23.26/£30.00

Going to make up a batch of food for today/tomorrow and that just leaves Friday to get through - so will meal plan for then.

Keep up the good work everyone!!!

Welcome to Nitamcc21 let us know if you still have any questions but I think ETO covered everything :D

LC how are things going since coming back from hols? It must be hard to get back in the swing of thing.

Welcome back Chris have you been on any exciting adventures? Liquid gold, this made me chuckle:rotfl:

I have been to the cinema to see Battleship and I can honestly say that was one of the most pointless films I have ever seen. Lots of stuff exploded but they seem to have forgotten the plot!

Anyway spends for me so far:
    • Breakfast Tuesday £2.50
    • Soup/cake to go with lunch Tues £2
    • Bottle of water at comedy Tues £2
    • Breakfast Wed £2
    • Soup to go with lunch Wed £1.50
    • Sandwich, drink and sweets for cinema £5
    Total £15 / £40
