Samsung Galaxy wont connect to Wi-Fi

Hi All

not sure if this should be here or in techie stuff but hoping someone can help. Just bought Samsung Galaxy s 2 and cant get it to connect to my wi-fi at home. i have googled it and seems common problem but all info is in forums full of people far cleverer than me and i dont know the difference between WEP or WAP or how to change MAC things. Can anyone explain in idiots language what i can try. i have put in password from my router which has successfully linked other things so know that bits right, phone says searching for ip address then it just gives up.

many thanks
:wall:Trying to get a grip

If your set up on the router requires MAC address to connect, you would need to go to admin page of your router and enter the galaxy MAC address into the router.

Or it could simply be you are typing something wrong - easy mistake to make on touchscreen, odd capital letter here, a symbol which you cannot see as you type on a touchscreen.

My first contract phone! Samsung Galaxy s5830 and can't make it connect to my wire wifi - it keeps connecting and disconnecting. I have put in the password and still it says Disabled secured with WPA WPA2 PSK
wifi scans and then drops out. I did read somewhere that some wi fi won't support more than one thing - I have my lap top connected to it - could this be the problem the wi fi was put in about 3/4 years ago. I know it does connect as it was connecting to others round about me quite late the other evening and I thought yippe I'm on - but it seems it wasn't my own password protected wi fi!!

any ideas please - and I'm not that tech savvy tho!

    thanks
