Zurich assurance claim they have found me

Hi,
I have just received a letter from Zurich Assurance stating that they think they have found me (they printed my name)
It states that they think they have an old account in my name and want to re-unite me with my money.
It goes onto to say that they need me to complete the attached form which requests my personal details such as full name, DOB, NI number, and my signature.
I'm worried this is a scam.
Does anyone have any thoughts about this?
Dave.

Zurich Assurance is a life insurance/pension arm of the business. Do you have any relatives that have passed away?
Zurich Assurance Ltd, authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority for its life assurance, pension and investment products.
If you are unsure, call them on 01793 514514/08705 221311.

Unfortunately it states on the letter that will not be able to discuss anything over the phone.
Really seems odd.0 -

Use Google to confirm that the return address for the form is genuinely them.
And is there any possibility that you owe them money? If so, this could be a ploy to confirm who you are before sending in the boys!0 -
Sounds quite normal. Insurers are required to put an effort into tracing people. Zurich is the current trading name for Eagle Star, Allied Dunbar as well as others. Maybe you had an old pension with them.
They are genuine but to be sure, use the official address if the one you have is different or phone them to ask if it is valid.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Great, thanks everyone. I will take your advice. It could be a pension I had years ago I guess.
Thank you all.0 -
I beg to differ here - I would NEVER send anyone the information you are being requested. In effect you are handing over sufficient information for someone to do anything as you.
It is imperative that you contact Zurich Insurance - For instance - did they quote a policy number on the letter? If they did not then you MUST assume the letter is fraudulent.0 -
Any reputable company will discuss the letter over the phone, and confirm if it's geniune or not. If it's not, they'll tell you.0

If you are unsure if it is genuine or not, I suggest you send the reply in an envelope addressed to
Zurich Assurance Limited
UK Life Centre
Station Road
Swindon
Wiltshire
SN1 1EL
This is the address Zurich has recorded on the FSA Register. If it is genuine you might lose a day or two getting it to the right department but if it is not you won't get scammed.0
