Scotlands licensing laws are differant from England. It is now 10am for all Off Licenses, I believe. It is some way of trying to combat the alcohol problems! My advice to the govenment would be to start penalising those premises big and small who continue to sell copious amounts of alcohol to the same customrs day in and day out! The sales staff all know who the alcoholics are but as is usual the majority will suffer to supposidly help the minority!! Most alcoholics will just stay in bed a bit longer!0

Why 10 am?
I don't see the logic but I'm happy to be educated if there are reasonable reasons why.
I dropped daughter off at school this morning then headed off to do the shopping. It was 9.30am when I was at the till so the bottle of wine I had in my trolley was taken off me.
Fair enough, I didn't realise it couldn't be sold until 10am but on my way home I got to thinking why that particular time?
to stop the school children buying it before school, obviously:hello:

My wife got asked for ID in Tesco because she was in the alcohol aisle.... LOL. She`s 27 but looks 19/20. She complains about getting asked for ID but I know she likes it really. Better to look younger than older I tell her.
I did`nt know you needed ID to be in certain aisles!0 -

Yeah that's what I was going to say, it's the Scottish Licensing Law that says it can't be sold before 10am. I think it came in about 2 or 3 years ago, I only found out when i tried to buy some and was refused, the boy at the checkout made out I was a right eejit for not knowing!
Don't know why though."That's no reason to cry. One cries because one is sad. For example, I cry because others are stupid, and that makes me sad."0 -

We went to Tesco on Saturday, early for us, we were home and unpacked before 9am we bought a meal deal that had wine and we were able to buy it with no problems, must be you Scots that have to be protected from yourselves LOL. I understand the logic but it doesn't make sense to us none abusers of alcohol, I don't need to be protected by the government from drinking too much thanks very much.0

Was that a general 'scummy' comment or are you assuming this particular Tesco is in a 'scummy' area?Herman - MP for all!0 -
On a virgin train to London on Saturday morning. Can buy cans of beer at 7am, but cant buy beer on the way back on the Sunday as it was a "Football" train.
