ooophs, forgot to say how I did it!

    Well, simple, real simple....

Went along to Tesco, after the shopping I checked my tyres - guess what they were all slightly out in terms of correct pressures.

I'd checked the mpg in the previous weeks and again after correcting the tyre pressures and I saved in the region of 12% on mpg - equating to 10pence off a litre of petrol!

Just think how many people are driving round in vehicles with the tyre pressures set incorrectly and the savings they could make

I guess I'll save around £200 a year just from this one simple thing

And I'll be more likley to live too, as the risks of accidents are reduced.

    Cool!

Not sure that life is that easy. There are so many variables involved when
    driving.
For instance, the weather has improved so much these past couple of weeks that you
probably were not using the air conditioning,or heater or windscreen wipers-all of which
increase your fuel consumption.Travelling in rain or snow clogs the traffic up-increasing fuel consumption.Even your mood can affect it.As can the time of day.And I am only scratching the surface on all the factors that affect fuel consumption.

I am not saying that you didn't benefit from adjusting your tyres, but I would be
surprised that it was the only factor involved in such a big change in your figures.

How much is slightly? Under over?

All were under in terms of pressure - and for some unexplained reason the front nearside was significantly below - 20% below! (embarrassing to say the least!)

Of course, I agree, loads of factors affect consumption - but I am not asking you to believe me, thats up to you to decide - all I am saying is that as far as I am aware the only variable of significance was the tyre pressure correction.

The dramatic change in consumption was seen even on the onboard computer that same day - before and after the tyres were adjusted so I am confident that the tyre pressure correction alone has made a 12% difference.

Can I suggest that anyone interested in safety and cutting fuel consumption checks their tyre pressures at least monthly when at tesco etc -

with fuel at record highs and the co2 levels rising we can all save money in this simple way - try it, what have you got to lose?

a £200 a year saving is well worth passing on to others via this board.

    Cheers!

Hi Magnum - best re-check the pressures again, tomorrow - I'd be concerned why the air has decided to escape!!

one friendly warning i would like to add to this matter:

higher pressure = less grip = less fuel = .... more slippery, especially in the wet driving condition.

do follow the guide but not to pump the tyres all the way up just to save fuel or ur car will end up in the garage.

If you really want to save money on petrol do your shopping at tescos
they give you a voucher if you spend £50 on shopping for 5p off a litre of petrol.
Always fill up at supermarkets they are normally 10p+ a litre cheaper
In days gone by petrol companys tried to tell us supermarkets sold substandard petrol stange as all petrol is to a british standard and I have traveled 200000 miles on it in my life !
    Were all Dooooooooomed !
