Business Account Charges

Options
hi wondering if anyone can help - first time on here!

My partner opened a business account with natwest over a year ago and never ended up using it, we moved shortly afterwards. Over a year later we had all the post redirected to our new address, only to find out that he had been charged monthly for the account, and as we had not responded it has been passed onto debt collection company. When i called Natwest they said it was for phone insurrance?? My partner was never told about any charges for this account - he works abroad so would not have taken out an account with a monthly payment. They are chasing £1560!!! natwest are saying they cant do anything as its been passed to the debt collectors.

Do you have the terms & tariff of the account when you opened it?

Unless you can prove it was free then you probably owe the money.

I think Natwest charge for their business accounts. Even if they don't then the fact the bank suggests it was for phone insurance suggests it was an added value account so I can't see them offering this for free for over a year.

Why didn't you advise the bank of your new address when you moved?
I mean you say it was opened a year ago, and I guess you must have moved shortly thereafter if you didn't get any statements.
