Can I get my default removed ??

Can anyone HELP ME!
Hope this makes sence, I had a credit card which due to a financial hiccup I missed some payments. I told them as soon as this was sorted I would be able to pay them in full. Anyway it got passed to the debt collectors and as soon as I had managed to get the money together I called up the debt collectors to pay the full amount. The debt collector offered me a settlement figure even though I was willing to pay the full amount. I asked at the time if I paid this amount would the account be settled and would this mean it would not be taken any further, I was told it would all be fine.
I then forgot all about it about thinking it was sorted and heard nothing from them. Over a year later I ordered a credit report that showed a default had been put on 9 months after I had paid the settlement and that I still owed £600 to the credit card company(the difference between the full payment and the settlement figure given) . After a bit of a paper chase I managed to get the account settled so I no longer owed them the money.
I am now trying to get the default taken off but they are digging their heels in and refusing to do it. I am going to forward it to the financial ombudsman but has anyone got any advise for me or am I just :wall:

If it went to debt collection and you were offered a settlement it means the account was defaulted and then you paid it off. There are two type of default listed on credit reports - settled and outstanding. From your description it sounds like you have a settled default on there, which will remain for 6 years unless you have a case against the lender for entering incorrect information.
Credit reports contain all your good and bad. lenders will not just wipe away the bad marks because you paid them eventually.
It will take 6 years from the original default date for it to drop off your report

If you defaulted and the information they recorded was correct then it'll be a goodwill gesture to remove it.
They very very rarely do as they are processing factual information about your credit worthiness. If it was easy to have defaults removed lenders wouldn't have a clue who were good payers and who weren't, because we'd all be running around having the bad stuff removed.0 -
Hanns, hate to say it but they have reported what is factual correct on your account. You didn't pay therefore it was sent to a debt collector. At that point the default will been applied.
The chances of having this removed a slim to none. Trust me I've found long and hard and only ver had success on I would say 5% of the horrible things even then I had to plead extenuating circumstances.
The omnibudsman will see the default as a fair representation of your file. Best thing I can recommend is getting everything paid and up to speed, Never miss another payment and stop before you get to any more financial hiccups.
Trust me if there was a magic wand I'd be the first there with 33 late payments due to unemployment and 3 family member deaths you would think I would have a good case and I've had the grand total of 2 removed! There is nothing for me to do but suck it up and get on with my life0 -
Thank you for your replies the thing is the according to my credit report the default did not go on until 9 months after I had paid the debt off. The annoying thing is as well besides this my credit report is faultless.0

Just to let anyone that is interested know, I have managed after a hard slog to get the default removed:j.
So to anyone that believes they really don't deserve the default that has been given to them then DO NOT give up, as it is possible to get a default removed if it should not have been put on in the first place.0 -
You did default and did deserve the default mark.
What you should be saying is that you got lucky.0 -

Another useless post from you. You're unwavering when it comes to displaying emptiness and clocking post count.
What about my post suggests that I'm a keyboard warrior? The OP posted something that is generally against the norm and I highlighted that.0
