Motorbike theft -scared they won't pay out

Hello all,
I am new to the fourm.
My motorbike was stolen from outside of my home this morning. I was up with the baby most of the night so could not get to sleep. Around 4am I decided to bring the bike out of my rear garage and bring round to the front of the house, ready for when I left for work at around 6am. My wife shouted me around 5:30am, to say the bike had gone.
The problem is my insurance document has a clause saying if the bike is not in the garage between 10pm and 6am, they will not cover any losses.
I have informed the police and insurance company. The insurers are calling me tomorrow at 3pm to fill in the details. I am terrified they will not pay out on the insurance. Can anyone offer any advise?
Thanks!

Why would you expect them to pay?
It' a condition of your insurance that you keep it in the garage and you didn't do that.
I'm afraid insurers are not in the habit of paying out if you break the terms and conditions.0 -
Thanks for your reply. I expect that's how they will see it too.0

You must live in a high(ish) crime area to have such a clause. I've never seen one in 25 years of (car) insurance policies
It's a pretty clear exclusion clause.
They're probably not going to pay out. Sorry. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.

Hi there - Liverpool, need I say more? It is a post code where a lot of the football players live - there is a lot of vehicle theft in the area.
I didn't realise it was such a definate clause until I looked through the paperwork today. Oh well, can't be changed now.0 -
Could it be classed as an unfair clause.
You must be very tempted to say you took it round the front at 6.30 ready for work..................make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Put the word out in the biking community. Around my way we all look out for each other :-)
There may be some forums or facebook groups you can post on.
In fact I believe there are some specific facebook groups for details of stolen bikes. You must be very tempted to say you took it round the front at 6.30 ready for work..................
Personally I would not be tempted to lie to the police, or tell two different stories.0 -
Could it be classed as an unfair clause.
Why?
It's extremely common that if you leave valuables in a car that you have to put them in a locked compartment etc. so why would it be unfair to insist you garage a bike if you declare that's where it's kept at the insured address?
Of course if you'd paid the premium for it to be out on the road then that would be a different matter.0 -

Who knows, I might get lucky when the insurance call me to discuss tomorrow.
Let us know how you get on, but I'd be amazed if they cover you when they have explcitly stated they won't.
Insurers are not generous in fact it's the other way round, they usually are looking for ways to wiggle out of it completely or to pay as little as possible.0
