Which Haven sites do you recommend?

Options
We've been doing the sun holidays twice a year for the last few years, and last year tried Haven for the first time. My 4 yr old ds loved it :) he loves the characters, the kids clubs and the shows in the evenings.

We have tried a few different Havens so far, found Devon Cliffs and Kiln Park too big/busy, loved Littlesea but think Weymouth will be too busy this year (work commitments mean we need to go in July). So I'm on the hunt for a new Haven park to try.

Would ideally like one of the quieter, less busy sites as my 18 month old ds will probably be following his brother around and wanting to get involved - we've just returned from Doniford Bay which was quiet enough for ds2 to follow ds1 onto the dance floor in the evenings without me worrying about him getting knocked over by older children, and we were able to sit close enough to the dance floor to allow them to get involved without us hovering over them all the time.

So can anyone recommend a Haven site suitable for a 4 year old and a 1 year old, that's not going to be as big/busy as Devon Cliffs but is within 3 hours drive of South Wales?

Any suggestions would be great :)

We went to Haven,Newquay by Cardigan last year with our 3 year old and absolutely loved it. It has a family run feel but with all the facilities Haven offer. Lovely pools, playground, trampolines, bouncy castles, nature trails, beach access etc. Lots of privately owned caravans on the site so the facilities didnt seem so busy

Hafan-y-Mor is great but it's an enormous site (it's a former Butlins) so it wouldn't be suitable for anyone looking for somewhere small and quiet, in fact quite the opposite.

There is another Haven site near to Hafan-y-Mor called Greenacres which is smaller and quieter but still in a great location for exploring Snowdonia and the Llyn Penisula.
The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water
And I look like a tramp and tramps like us

We have enjoyed Thorpe Park in cleethorpes, Caister in norfolk and Primrose Valley in filey.
The best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T
  • Haven at Rockley Park in Poole is a great one...I think it's one of their flagship ones. I found the accommodation to be really clean, and it was nice to go down to the boating bit, it has a spa if your wife wants to get away from it all for an hour! Too be honest though, again it is a relatively big park though, so I know it's nice, but not sure if it's what you are after.
  • BTW...there is a website that you can sign up to (free) for discounts on Haven...unfortunately it's usually 35% off Haven but up to just 10% in school holidays...it's better than nothing though... just google 123Save

Its always worth trying Park Resorts, we used to go to Haven but found them too big and too busy, Park Resorts tend to be quieter and the entertainment is just as good
  • Another vote for Greenacres near Porthmadog. It can seem big but it's well laid out and well maintained. The only disappointment is the pool which hasn't been redeveloped in about 20 years, but it's proximity to the huge Black Rock Sands makes up for it.

Thanks for all the replies....we've ruled out Hafen y Mor and Greenacres because of the travel time. We're in the valleys near Caerphilly and its over 4 hours drive from here, 3 hours is difficult enough with a 1 year old so don't want to exceed that really.

We have been looking again tonight, and think our first choice is going to be Quay West or Rockley Park. We need a shortlist of around 3 sites as we are limited to when we can go, only 2 possible dates that we can both get off work, so just looking for a 3rd possible site now.

Having checked the AA route finder, sites within 3 hours drive are Rockley Park, Weymouth Bay, Burnham on Sea, Lydstep Beach, Kiln Park and Quay West.

Has anyone been to any of these sites and can tell me how busy they are likely to be in early July? also which ones are close to a nice sandy beach? As much as my boys loved Doniford Bay they were disappointed not to be able to build sand castles, so a site near a nice beach would be fab.
