Has anyone ever got a New Deal railcard? I kept asking, but they didn't know what one was, the fact I would drag out a copy of their leaflet with it in didn't make any difference.

If you are aged 18-24 you will have weekly contact with your adviser, either face-to-face, phone or e-mail. Once you reach 22 weeks unemployment, or earlier if it deems necessary, you will be required to attend weekly.

  • Ever since the conservatives got in power it's been every week.

    Wrong!!!

I understood that the weekly signings after 6 months of claiming have been stopped. I've currently been signing on for 8 months and I haven't had to attend weekly signings.
Are you sure it's going to be every week. Sometimes when you first sign on they ask you to come in the following week as there is various things they go through with you. Seems strange as it's normally every fortnight except when they have you signing on every week now and again.

I think this is likely to be the case. (Unless the OP is aged 18-24 and what busy mum posted applies.)

Reviving this thread - I've been to 3 JSA meetings in 4 weeks and the last one I went to was only a week after the one previously. However aside from talking about some 'job events for young people' they didn't actually give me the sheet to sign. Am I right to presume the act of 'signing on' is still 2 week but they have just added in extra sessions for the various reasons they deemed it necessary?
  • My son went to sign on today and they told him he has to sign on every week too and at a different jobcentre what's going on does it mean he will get his money every week now or will he still get it every two weeks

Weekly signing on is being rolled out across the country. In some circumstances people will have to attend the Job Centre every day.

    See here:

    http://www.parliament.uk/business/committees/committees-a-z/commons-select/work-and-pensions-committee/news/jcp-rpt/

As far as I am aware your son will still be paid every two weeks.
  • I can shed some light onto this as a friend works for the job center and told me what this is all about

apparently not everyone has to go once a week BUT if they think you are 'at risk' they make you go once a week instead of the once every 2 weeks so that if you miss appointments they have a good reason to take away your JSA

People are told 'this is a new way being rolled out' but in reality they think you are 'at risk' so they are kind of lying. i really hate that they are doing this and judging people on their applications and using this as a excuse to take away peoples JSA if they miss appointments and the fact the government think people can live on £72 a week.

i know someone who was told by the doctors and hospital that she is not allowed to work and is on oxygen 14hours a day and was declined for disability allowance cause she can dress herself and has to try and live on £72 a week and is not physically able to work

This all seems just another way for the government to screw over people

Every office works differently but by sept this year every jobcentre is expected to have 50% of its caseload on weekly signing so it might be that the jobcentre you sign on at has decided to get its new claimants in on weekly to maintain the pace of jobsearch as usually these are either the most motivated or need the most support
