JSA sign on every week now?

I have just been to the JC to sign on, lost my job due to the global crisis.

They want me to come in and sign on every week now.

I thought it was every 2 weeks, but she said no its new government policy or something.

Does everyone have to sign on every week now? Its a much bigger workload for the staff at JCers especially as unemployment steadily keeps going up.

If that the case then they will have to take on more staff so employment will go down ;-)

Not really since the crisis everyone is expected to work longer and harder for less money.

Is anyone else on here signing on every week not every 2?

How long have you been signing on for?
The job centre puts you through certain hoops at times and I think the every week thing lasts for 4 weeks and then its back to fortnightly.

After signing on for a few months they will then change you to weekly for about 6 weeks. Then after that you go back to every fortnight then don't be surprised if not long after they put you back to weekly.

Are you sure it's going to be every week. Sometimes when you first sign on they ask you to come in the following week as there is various things they go through with you. Seems strange as it's normally every fortnight except when they have you signing on every week now and again.

I signed on for the first time ever three weeks ago tomorrow, the first two times I went were last Tuesday, then the Tuesday before. It's now fortnightly until they decide it's weekly. I've never signed on before and still haven't been told if I'm even going to get my claim approved.

My daughter was told after 2mths signing on she had to go every week from now on , then the first time she went on consecutive weeks they said sorry it was a mistake , go back to every 2wks.. right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing... or they are just making people jump through unnecessary hoops..

    Excellent.

Remember to ask your advisor for plenty of job printouts, photocopies of the local newspapers, ask about college courses, training for work schemes etc.

You might be entitled to bus fares for appointments other than the fortnightly signing, or for a new deal railcard. Always worth asking.

Signing should take at least 20 minutes or you aren't asking your advisor for enough advice.

And be nice to the security guards - it really freaks them out!!!
