Virginmeadia - lost sky, want to leave...

Options
Morning

First post here, so apologies if in the wrong place.

Anyway, I joined Virginmedia/telewest in Novemeber 06 on a combined package. Happy with phone and broadband, but wouldn't have joined if I had known I would loose sky1 part way through the contract - I am now in a position for paying for a television service that has lost most of the reason for getting it.

I generally don't watch much TV, but what I did is either freeview available or SKY1.

Has anybody any thoughts as to whether this loss of SKY constitues a breach of contract of Virgin's part and so I could legitimately cancel my contract with them? Alternatively, I would stay with Telewest for a reduction in costs.

I would appreciate peoples views on this.

Thanks

Its not a breach of contract as in the contract they state that all channels are 'subject to availability'.

However Virgin are being kind enough to let customers cancel if they're not happy about loosing sky. I think the grace period runs out March 31st as far as i know

Virgin Media in fact bowed to pressure from a consumer group, the National Consumer Council, announcing that it would allow customers to cancel their subscriptions with no penalty because of the loss of the Sky channels.

Minor point, and I'm not having a go just mentioning. Virgin have not taken over ntl/Telewest. NTL bought Virgin Mobile, along with the right to use the Virgin name. Branson got some ntl shares in return and licenses the Virgin name to ntl. Its the same company it always was, just a different name.

Its all a PR disaster really. Couldn't have come at a worse time, big rebrand and re-launch and then this happens. The Virgin name is being dragged through the mud because of it all, bet Branson isn't happy about that!
