Teething. Baltic Amber Necklace

I got mine from Green Baby, it helped both children and I even wore it myself when climbing the walls with toothache. It did actually work
. I'm not sure if it is "just" a placebo effect or not but in Medieval times pregnant women wore amber amulets on long necklaces to ease the pain of labour. A king or Pope (history not my strong point
but it was a Sheila Kitzinger book) banned the amber as God was being denied the screams of birthing women to which he was entitled. Maybe they knew about the analgesic properties way back then. They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

Would you put anything else round a crawling baby's neck?
Sheesh, it's not a dangly necklace :rotfl:I'm not that way reclined
Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!0 -
They're fab IMHO, I bought DS an amber bracelet, to wear around his ankle (thinking it was a bit cheaper (although still round about the same price as a big bottle of Calpol!) - just in case it didn't work!, and it was a bit safer than being around his neck!) I noticed a difference pretty quickly - he went from needing pain relief ('brufen/paracetamol) almost as soon as the previous dose had worn off IYSWIM, to not needing any meds at all for it! I was highly sceptical, but now am a believer! My son's stays on all the time, only being removed before going swimming or in the bath. I recommend AmberHealingUK, through eBay (the lady is lovely!) I have been buying my friends a teething bracelet as new baby gifts! HTH0

These are a complete con. Firstly there is the strangulation and choking hazard. And secondly, amber is completely inert (after-all it is effectively a fossil that has survived millions of years) and so what exactly is it that you believe it is doing? And if you *do* believe that the amber is secreting some sort of acid into your child's skin, what on earth do you think you are doing exposing your child to untested chemicals?
The mind boggles.

Really? How does wearing a necklace help with pain relief? Sounds like hocus-pocus to me.

Babies do not get warm enough for anything to be leeched into their skin and as far as wearing amber to cut down on labour pains? That's almost as ridiculous sounding as doctors in the 40's telling women to smoke in order to make their babies smaller so giving birth doesn't hurt as much. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0

It might not dangle but you wouldn't go tying a shoelace around a baby's neck would you? It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -
I know of hundreds of mums who use these, and don't believe they are a con. Apparently they help when your wisdom teeth are coming through too

Might be a placebo affect, but if it seems to make a difference, why not?
All the safety warnings are ridiculous, the recall is because the necklace BREAKS. Which is the EXACT reason WHY they are safe! if it gets caught on anything, it immediately breaks. And if made properly, each bead is tied so they don't come loose once the necklace is broken.
Next they will recall bibs!
My baby seems to be teething, if she is having a lot of problems I might consider using one.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
