Any thoughts?
I have seen good things about these, but i'm not sure whether they do work or not. Anyone had experience of them? Also if you have then where did you get one? I've seen them online from £2 - £20 with one website saying they only use baltic amber, none melted down or glass or plastic so does that mean the cheaper ones do?
If anyone could recommend a seller i'd be grateful)

Are necklaces safe for babies? I wouldn't have thought so.0

Can I ask something stupid? Does the baby chew it or wear it?

There is a large thread here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3746295
There have been multiple warnings in many countries about defective necklaces with threads that can break etc and choking hazards see my posts for details of particular makes and hazards.0 -
My little granddaughter wore one. Her mummy put it on in the morning and took it off when she napped or went to bed.I'm not that way reclined
Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!0 -
I've heard of these and one mum at a baby group I go to swears by them fro her daughter. I understand that the heat from your baby's body warms the amber and releases some natural oil which soothes pain. I'm not sure if I believe it or not personally, but if your baby is in pain from teething, why not try it?
From what I've read it's important to buy one from a trusted website - don't buy from ebay. I say this because it's important for safety reasons (chocking) that the necklace is well made and each bead is individually knotted, so if it should break you're only looking at the loss of one bead, not the whole lot of them falling on the floor.
You also need to fasten it quite close around the baby's neck so they can't chew on it or get it tangled around anything and it's very important that your baby only wears it when supervised. (since baby obviously can't wear it at night, I didn't see the point it them myself because that's when teething seems to bother my LO most!)0 -

I wondered that when I heard about them too, so not a stupid question at all. Babies wear them, chewing it would not be so good!0 -
Amber Pumpkin or Dino Daisy are two trusted sellers.:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0

I googled them, also not understanding what a baby did with them and this is what the first hit I got said from the following website.

All retailers selling amber teething necklaces within the UK are being contacted by Trading Standards following European Rapid Alert System for Non-Food Products investigations regarding the potential safety of the necklaces due to small parts and risks involved with babies & children wearing necklaces.
We have been requested to remove the amber necklaces from stock until further notice. As a responsible retailer we have followed their advice.

If you can get a REAL baltic amber necklace for £20 I would be very surprised. Real Amber is highly prized in jewellery. I saw the most gorgeous amber necklace in a jewellers and even though it was set in silver it was over £500.
Amber isnt a gemstone - its resin and as such is easy to duplicate. fakes have flecks of objects in it (unidentifiable) -Real amber often contains parts of insects or plants and those are easily identifiable.
I think that these necklaces are a con - and dangerous too! would you put a baby to bed wearing a necklace? even if its 'individually' knotted - what if the necklace caught on something and strangled the baby?
In Victorian times Amber was often used in teething RINGS! so was Ivory. in fact anything a child could knaw on and not damage. it wasnt for any 'magical' property of the ring!0 -
I'm guessing they are very good at upping the profit made by certain ebay sellers. Though every mother I've spoken to - when spotting the amber beads around the neck of a second or third child - says they are no better or worse than remedies such as chamomilla homeopathic remedy, Sophie the giraffe, a finger dipped in ice water, etc.
I suppose it's a personal choice. If you've the money to go for it, when all else fails, do so.0
