Modus or C3
Still looking. (The Roomster is ugly, the Fabia is tacky, so they're out) The C3 looks good, but the best I've seen the 58/09 for is around £7000, for a diesel, as opposed to £5000 for a 57 Modus. And they're both very few and far between. Anyone like the C3?

Whats the lesser of two evils.
C3, its French, its a Citroen, it will breakdown sooner or later and annoy you, the Hdi engines are not partucularly refined, but will give you good MPG.
Modus, its French, this is a car that you need to remove the bumper to change a headlight bulb. We have one and I have to say has been very reliable, after 85,000 miles its suspension in knocking and the air-con leaks (£600 to fix). The 1.5 dci 86bhp is not particularly nice (think tractor engine and you'll get the general idea) but seems to be reliable.
Personally I would not buy either. But then, many people would and do buy them. But would they buy another thats the question.0 -
My father in law had a C3 of that generation although a slighlty older one. It failed every MOT it ever had despite his best efforts to look after it. But the MPG was always good.
Ride isnt great when theres more than 2 people in it either.
Dont know about the Modus.0 -

C3. The Modus is now discontinued and parts and panels will be hard to obtain in the future. The man without a signature.0

To follow up, the Modus is a small MPV, the C3 is just a small car (probably slightly bigger than a fiesta). So these are not exactly similar cars.
The Kia ceed is a great car, but its bigger, more Ford focus sized, so whilst its a good car, its not a valid comparison, furthermore, the age/price-bracket the OP was looking at would rule out the ecodynamics Cee'd I would imagine.0 -
I had those two in my shortlist, along with the Nissan Note. I went for a 59 plate Mitsubishi Colt in the end.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Hi
Had my C3 just over 3 years now
Its a 07 1.6 HDI (92BHP) Exclusive
Done 42000Miles in it and it has not missed a beat
£30 Road Fund Tax
Always Over 50 MPG with climate control on all the time
Usually 55-60
65+ on long runs
Passed all it MOTs
Give it Diesel Magic to clean the system out as dont thrash it
Had HDI engines for 13 years now and cant beat them0 -

I bit like comparing an Argos own brand TV and a Tescos one. I wouldn't buy either, I'd get a Panasonic one
I'd prefer to look a knob driving a Roomster than look a knob siting at the roadside in my brokendown french car
There's a good reason that there aren't many of them! While its true that any car can have a problem, every breakdown survey and satisfaction survey says the same thing, statistically a French car is more likely to have problems.
The quickest way to find French cars on Ebay is search under 'spares or repair' but you will have to wade through all the Lagunas :rotfl:0 -

Nothing like a well informed opinion.0 -
Sorry if my opinion differs to yours but this is a money saving site and being seduced by the price of cheap tat is rarely money saving in the long run
If you do go into a dealer wanting to buy a Modus then (after the salesman has finished doing cartwheels) bargain hard. As long as its not red, and Postman Pats not queuing behind you, you should be able to name your price. Just double check the headlights are working
Just a thought but have you considered a Honda Jazz?0
