I have to say that CS from banks I find is much of a muchness. Over the years, I've banked with LTSB, Barclays, HSBC, Nationwide, Smile/Co-op amongst others. Out of all of them, Smile/Co-op have been the best although I will agree with Copperplate in that service has slipped somewhat lately, and there was a period of 6 months where I moved my business elsewhere as they had really annoyed me.

What I would say for Smile/Co-op is that their service is good, but they aren't always 100% at following through on promises that they make.

There's something to be said for stashing your money under the floorboards! At least there wouldnt be the hassle of incompetent / rude people.
I think there should be a revolution in this country - I dont know anyne who is happy about the level of service and the general malaise and incompetence.
Maybe Martin can start the revolution!

How much interest do floorboards pay? I hope it's more than IceSave! ;)

I have found Yorkshire bank a breath of fresh air since we have been with them. The opening of the account (yes you have to go into the branch) is one of the nicest Bank experiences I have had. A cup of tea and a chat and to see what OUR needs were. 15 minutes later I walked out with the account number and sort code. Also a Card of the personal banker who said we should call her if we had any problems at all!

The cards arrived 3 days after and I received a call the next day asking if I had received them and if everything was ok. I was never asked to be sold anything but I did state the name of the girl that opened the account and spoke to a manger who said she would see that the girl got a commendation.

2 days later I received a call from my 'personal' banker to say thanks for saying she was helpful as some people only call in to complain! Surprise surprise!

Everything is done when they say (mostly its quicker) but they always meet my expectations and most importantly they have my FULL trust. Something that is very hard to say about most banks!

    :D

I would say that FD has the best phone customer service, but I absolutely hate their online banking - IMO - is crap to use, understand and get what u need quickly.

Whereas smile has extremly good cutomer service (they're going through a company re-vamp and I'm guessing this is disturbing what is going to come of it), but their website - IMO - is the best website I've ever used, easy to understand u get to see all secure messages sent and received and is just brilliant.

Halifax have the best CC online site I've ever used. I moved to FD and then switched back as I just couldn't get a hang of their online site and as I never phone my bank, online is the thing that seals a deal in the end. So i'll be staying with smile for the moment!

    Been with the following banks
    Halifax
    HSBC
    First Direct (part of HSBC)
    Cahoot
    Barclays
    Nationwide (building society)
    Alliance & Leicester
    Co-op
    Lloyds TSB

Out of them all I've found First Direct to be by far the best.
