This is my TV and I think the one that the OP has bought - its a belter.
  • Flyboy, the one I have purchased is the 450 so I imagine it's the one set below that particular model you have referred to. I haven't unpacked it yet and am still debating my options! The reason I purchased one wasn't out of need was more as a present to myself for the pay couple I years I have been through so I'm looking at it more from the point of view of what's the best set I can get, within a reasonable amount of money and not wanting to pay stupid.

Okay mate heres what you should do. Open the TV and check it out. If you like it, happy times.

Now then, the problem with the TV that all the people on the forums are on about is whats called the DSE or dirty screen effect. You will notice it during football, or any scenes where there is something moving fast (ie panning across a pitch, wall etc). Its only noticeable (for me) when your looking for it. LG have acknowledged its a problem. SO.. if you do notice it you could return it as faulty, as LG have come out themselves and admitted there is a problem - its just that not everyone notices it. They would have to accept it back as its a known fault.

If he opens it then he will no longer be eligible to return it.

Trying to reject it as faulty after opening is not as simple as it sounds when it comes to Currys

LG have admitted publically its a problem with some sets, so Currys will have to shove there returns policy as it will be faulty if the OP is bothered by the DSE. I have returned a faulty TV to them before, yes it was a pain as they insisted on having it looked at first, but they took it back in the end. They then tried to offer me a different TV, but I wanted a refund - after a mini argument in the store I got my refund.

Although that would have been the best course of action to have taken, however, as the OP has already been to the store to view the product, Regulation 11 of the DSRs does not apply. That is, of course, if Currys were to actually know if the OP had been to a store..
Where does it state that going to look at something instore, then buying it later online negates your DSR rights?

I was actually inferring that the OP buy from a different online retailer than Curry's anyway.

OP, if you're not in any rush then return the LG, and try get a pricematch with John Lewis and order online. This way you'll be able to try it out and return it without any issues should you not like it.

So if it's a known fault why would it be recommended for op to open the box and enter in to a battle when they can leave it unopened and return it problem free under their own 28 day returns policy?

Because its a fault that not everyone would be bothered about, its nothing major at all. My point is the OP obviously is undecided about keeping the TV or not.

Your advice is to take the TV back, with my advice he can check it out, and if he does not like it then still take it back using the `fault' excuse. He will like it as its a top notch TV regardless of the slight screen problem with some sets.

Read this then just change it for a normal 2D TV.

Section 3 of the The Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 and the OFT's own guidance.

But then I didn't write that it negates the consumer's DSR rights, only their right to cancel under regulation 10.
