Tv return

Hi, I would be very grateful if someone could give me some advice. This morning I went to Currys to purchase a new tv, I had done plenty of research looking into it and was more or less set to purchase a Sony hx823. In the shop I began speaking to a sales assistant with whom I explained what I was looking for etc why. I wasn't totally set on that particular model so was open to listen to suggestions. After a lengthy discussion I was persuaded to purchase an lg, partly being convinced by the cheaper price and passive 3d as opposed to 2d. When I got home I decided to look on the net at what other people who have bought it thought of it and quite a few people seem to say the same thing about it struggling a bit watching fast moving sports and also gaming. These were the 2 main things I told the sales assistant I wanted. I'm know now sure if I have done the right thing and am thinking I want to go change it. I still haven't opened the box as I don't know if doing that will make it harder to take it back.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated as to where I stand returning it. I want to open it to see for myself but am unsure if that will make it harder should I decide I want to return it

    Don't open it.

Currys in-store returns policy is clear on this. 21 days. Unopened and sealed.

Get one demo'd in store if you're not sure.

    Currys return policy states:

If you change your mind and would like to return your product, we're happy to exchange or refund it as long as:
    • The product is in its original unopened and sealed packaging
    • You return it within 21 days of date of purchase
    • You have proof of purchase (Original receipt, delivery note, bank statement
So based on that I'd say don't open it if you want to take it back

    That was your first mistake.

Maybe you should consider purchasing online as at least you'll be able to try out the TV and have the distance selling regs to fall back on should you decide to return it.

Although that would have been the best course of action to have taken, however, as the OP has already been to the store to view the product, Regulation 11 of the DSRs does not apply. That is, of course, if Currys were to actually know if the OP had been to a store. ;)

But the first mistake was considering purchasing anything from Currys in the first place.

  • Thanks for the help. Think I will probably end up returning it and changing it as despite the slightly higher cost.

Neilmcl. Typically I'm quite happy purchasing online but as I was expecting to get the Sony I fully researched prices online and it was the cheapest at Currys. Also in store I quickly looked and the lg telly was well priced compared to online also

Buy the television set from John Lewis and then claim on their "Never knowingly undersold," policy. You will get the price you want and still get the legendary customer service from John Lewis. Something you will never get from Currys.

I have had loads of TV's mate, I upgrade every year. Im currently on a passive 3d LG TV, and yes it has a few banding issues here and there - but nothing worth taking it back over. I like sport, and play games and dont have any problems with it.

The problem with reading stuff on the net about TV's is people only tend to vent their views when somethings bad (in their eyes of course). For every one bad review there are probably 20 people happy with that TV but just dont bother writing about it.

Go check out the TV in store then make your decision, only problem is that in most Currys etc they dont setup there tv's well enough, probably still using RF connections..

Good luck whatever you do pal.

I have always found HDTVtest reviews to be the best unbiased opinions on the web.
