Removing the meter may work out considerably more expensive!
Cheapest for me - dual fuel but using no gas - is 296 pounds, with npower 'go save'.
Electricity only is EDF energy, at 339.

    Entering the twilight zone.

The cheapest the comparison sites do is EDF energy for electricity + npower 'go save' for gas.
At 339 for electricity, and -57 for gas, a total of 282 pounds.

It would be interesting to try this, and see if it works.
But you'd need to read all the small print _very_ carefully.

Does it save on the rental?

The reason I ask is that you can have your elec meter removed but the supplier gets charged for record maintenance by the MOP and DC because they are still appointed.

In elec, the cost is not passed to the customer in these cases as the account sits unmetered but the supplier still pays the record maintenance charge.

Yes as suppliers have to pay for the rentals. Electric is a little different, its like with gas after 12 months of discon the GT will go out and cut off at the road. With electric they dont tend to pot end.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
