    Well, yes.

Musical ability in children improves intelligence, self-discipline, and from personal experience creates strong bonds/friendships if they play in groups/orchestras.

As for the other classes, its a good way of developing self-discipline, confidence, and its good exercise.

You can achieve in life and education without being so cultured.

Maybe a car can bring you happiness but somehow a child just seems to bring you something more.

    Heartache, stress and trouble??

    A lifetime of worry?

Stinky nappies, vomit and grubby carpets?

    No ta!

My 'baby' makes me giggle every time I pull away from the lights. Worth every penny. :D

People my age will probably never be able to afford to have children, so a car might be the way to go.

I wouldn't be without my music. Been musical since I was conceived! ;)

    A shocking amount really!!
Do kids really need music lessons and marshel arts classes?

I would say it is not the nature of the lessons but the volume that always causes me concern. Children do not need a myriad of different classes that keeps them occupied every school night and all weekend, but they do need some activities.

100k is just a scaremongering figure- are they adding the cost of family holidays in to that, when people who don't have kids take holidays anyway?

Perhaps if mumsy gave up work the first five years and they took that cost into account, but few people can afford to do that these days.

Nope - I'm sticking to cars.

They don't cry, or need nappies, and they don't wake you up at night. They're useful, and in my case, fun!

Mine costs me a small fortune, and my mother's hints about grandchildren aren't getting any quieter, but I'll stick to petrol rather than milk!

    :D

    Vroom vroom!
ah but a car will never earn money and contribute to the economy to pay for your penson...

the MP actually put the figure at £180,000 but they included costs of everything and at the highest rates. They had a couple who were first time parents who spent £2K just on nursery furniture and various yummy mummies buying designer clothes for their little ones. They also had some very good contributers saying that you don't have to spend anywhere near that much. The costs didn't include loss of earnings but included about £40K for uni fees, full time nursery costs (very expensive), and after school care, all the food and clothing costs plus out of school activities, toys etc and if you work it out that it's for a child up to the age of 21 then at the highest estimate it's about £8,500 per year... I've yet to meet a parent who wouldn't think that was value for money. And let's face it not all of us will spend that on our kids, especially MSE members.

quite - my baby will have a second hand cot that's either cheap or free, a new mattress and bedding. the cupboard will be cleared out to store nappies and toys and there's an old chest of drawers that will have clothes in. Less than £100 total I reckon... ;)
