Has anyone changed phone+Web suppliers during the cooling off period please?

I have some questions please.
I have/had three different suppliers for internet, phoneline rental, and calls.
I wanted to move them all to one supplier.
After reading about the different suppliers I was getting more and more confused and decided on the tesco one.
As I have a clubcard it works out cheaper still.
I arranged this last Monday with tesco and am now in the middle of a cooling off period.
Since arranging this, I have come across many negative reviews regarding tesco home phone and broadband.
I know that there are negative reviews about all phone+Web suppliers, but whereas all the other companies had different negative comments, with Tesco, the same three problems kept croppping up, getting disconnected all the time, very slow speed, and crappy router.
When well enough, I plan to do online work in future that will need a decent connection.
I therefore want to cancel tesco but I ahave some questions first.
Should I call my old suppliers and tell them that I no longer want to move to tesco?
Should I decide on a new package?
If so, at what stage should I tell tesco, and what should I say to them.
My main worry is complications and hassle with making repeated calls and getting nowhere, cos I have heard tesco customer services are really bad.
Thanks

I have dealt with just about all of them at some time and found Sky to be the best. If you can't contact Tesco by phone send them an e-mail saying you want to cancel. But make sure you get a new supplier first or you will have no connection. Check the uswitch site to compare deals but be aware that whatever speed they claim to offer depends on where you live.0

I'm afraid of my MAC code getting lost in the hole between my old supplier, virgin, and Tesco, please can you tell me what to do to avoid this happening if possible?
Thanks0 -
in cooling off period just cancel and tell your current supplier you are not changing yet if you moving both phone and BB then you dont need MAC (MAC only needed if you changing just BB)
im not 100% but think MAC is like PAC for mobile if you dont use it after thirty days is still active with your current supplier
i changed home phone and BB from o2 to tesco in march but tesco BB didnt work for me as mentioned in other threads here so orderd both services from plusnet 1st week april and moved to plusnet on thursday there is a problem with home phone and engineer is coming on monday but BB was activated on friday and is up and running fine(im confused too)Honesty is the best policy doesn't matter which web site

if i had known then what i know now!
a bargain is only a bargain if you really need it!0 -

Sorry you are having problem too Pingu.
Thank you for explaining to me that I don't need a MAC because I have home phone and broadband.
The problem is, I don't know who to ring first, tesco, or my new supplier?
Many thanks0 -
I seem to recall that a number of us recommended you go with Sky or O2, you were then saying what a great deal you got with Tesco.
For what its worth, I use Tesco for my mobile and get excellent service from them, it is run by O2 though and not Cable and Wireless who do the broadband.
Phone Virgin and tell them you are staying put, then contact Tesco and cancel.
I see that BT contacted you on the 17th:
BT left me a message to say they had received a notice to leave them, and there is no charges as I rang up and checked.
Just gotta wait for talk talk to do it now, but I will phone them if I don't hear from them.
Looks like the move is underway, probably too late to cancel as you are going LLU with Tesco. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

I went with tesco, as I am a clubcard holder and it was therefore £4.00 less for the first year.
Why is it too late to move? I only arranged it a week ago and tesco say I have until the day before my go-live date which is the 30th?

Hi
I just rang tesco to cancel my order.
They said no problem, but although tesco will contact my existing suppliers, the gentleman advised me to ring them myself, just to be sure.
I will ring my existing suppliers tomorrow, but am worried that they wont be able to reinstate me back onto my old packages, and may either want to charge, or say that I have to enter into a contract with them.
Please could someone put my mind at rest.
Many thanks0 -
I hope for your sake that BT are able to cancel the cease order on your line, IIWY they would be my first port of call. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Hi Penrhyn
Luckily I contacted BT through their online chat, here's how it went. (names hidden)
"BT staff member: I can see we have received a request with reference VOL011-63659812541 to move your Telephone service to other provider. However this has been now cancelled.
BT staff member: Please be assured that your services will continue to be active with BT.
Me: many thanks Kushal. Can you confirm that I will not be charged please?
BT staff member: Please be assured that you will not be charged for the cancellation of the request.
Me: Many thanks, you have been very helpful.
BT staff member: My Pleasure. "
I think tesco said something last night about not transferring the number until late in the set up process.
TalkTalk and virgin also confirmed today, when I rang them, that service will keep as normal.
I rang talktalk twice, the first call was ODD :rotfl:
I was asked if I am with TT or onetel.
My bills say TT and my web account is with onetel I think.
I gave my account number and was told it was showing a different name and address on their system.
I explained I had phoned on Friday to cancel my account due to changing to tesco, but changed my mind and wanted to keep calls with TT. Maybe that was why they couldnt find me.
The chap transferred me to a rather rude lady, who kept interrupting me, in the accounts section, who took my account number and telephone number.
She told me she was putting me through to the new numbers department or something that sounded like that. I explained the same to the lady the above, but she still wanted to transfer me to new numbers, but I said I did not want a new number, and she said she is putting me through to another department (I forget which) it was, then that "end-of-call" survey recorded message kicked in. DOH!
I rang again and spoke to Callum and he told me he will instruct the back office to cancel my cancellation and service will continue.
He said that although my bills say TT, I am actually a Onetel company, and that although TT bought onetel a while ago, they are still Xferring customers and hope to be all TT next year I thik.
He also asked me to contact them if I choose to go with another suppplier in future.
A bit of a mad first call with TT but got there in the end.
I was lucky I got out of that tesco deal, and am either gonna go BT or SKY and I think its worth paying the extra monthly amount for of of BT's faster service.
Am cruising a 3meg with virgin, which is annoyingly slow, and I think I would be driven madder by the less than 2mg speed reviews these cheap deals can drop down to according to the plentiful reviews on the cheaper deals from all companies.0
