After the sim is reported stolen it is the network who picks up the cost.
Before it is reported it is you and your insurance company.

That's what I figured. I just hope the insurance come through :( I've pretty much already convinced myself it's going to go badly since I rarely ever heard about it going otherwise!

I see this often, therefore i remain with my £20 Tesco handset, and a £10 02 PAY-G simcard.

A good deal from 02 not so long ago was the Simplicity plan. Contract for the minutes/free texts then PAY-G for everything else.

Well it could have been my wallet at the end of the day, or even my passport. Suppose I should take some comfort in that

So angry I let it happen too. A woman wouldn't leave me alone as I was trying to get back to my hotel, trying to hold my hand and give me the "have me for 10 euro?" chat, I assume she was a prostitute but I guess that could be a cover. Then her pal appeared and they started to get a bit too touchy and since "no gracias" wasn't working and I was getting very uncomfortable I shoved them off and walked off quickly, only to realize soon after my phone was gone

We had it the night before too, one actually felt my mates nuts as she was trying to persuade him, it' s nuts. If you are ever over there and alone or with other guys and they come near you and try to hold your hand and get you to go with them, be strict in telling them to get lost. Trying to be nice and tell them to move on gets your stuff nicked

    Cover applies
only to the airtime charges incurred by a third party
following loss or theft of your phone and commences
12 hours before you have notified the police, the airtime
    provider and us."
James does the insurance policy specifically refer to phones being covered that are stolen abroad.

That 12 hours appear to be unfair and the are UK Laws relating to contracts that are not fair.

Also if it's not really fit for purpose and you had mentioned you wanted it for cover abroad there is an argument they may have miss-sold it.

I really don't know about this but you might want to find out.

OK let me rephrase, I didn't know what NUMBER to call. Plus at that time in the morning I would never have expected them to be open. The guy told me that they have a special number that allows people to block phones, but I didn't know this. It's easy saying this now after it and go "you should have done this and that" but I'd just had my phone stolen, I was alone at the time (the rest stayed out), a bit shaken up and didn't know what I could do. I got up in the morning, spoke to my friends when they got up, told them and that's when I found out about the computers. I went to get a number but found the chat thing and got it barred. If I had known of these computers I would have tried the chat thing early in the morning. I've done everything they've asked within the time limits provided. I wish I could've done more or known what else to do, but I just acted on what I knew from the RBS website that said to report it to o2 and the police.

    @wantmemoney
Yes it mentions about phones being stolen abroad, there are different time limits for that also. It says you must contact the local police station over there though (as oppose to them doing it for you over here), which I did, I have the report here and have send a copy to the insurance

you may be worrying worry unnecessarily. Lets see what happens with the insurance first.....

The twelve hours still seems a bit unfair, supposed you had been mugged for example and hadn't been in a condition to have contacted them.

Funnily enough, that's what everyone has told me, even the guy at o2! It's just due to the large amount of money (suppose it's not insane compared to others I've seen with bills over £8000) and the fact I have never claimed insurance on anything in my life. I haven't heard much about it being straight forward and basically have myself worried sick. I'll phone them tomorrow and modify the claim to include the airtime abuse, then it'll be in their hands. Suppose there's no use in feeling the battle is lost before it's even started eh!

Thanks again for your replies. I'll let you know how I get on. I hope to come back with good news!

I wouldn't pay much attention to what the guy at O2 said.
The insurance company is your main concern. These companies are known to use every excuse for not paying. It's not that I am saying that they will do this in your case or there can be some excuses.
