Cctv?

Is there anyway of installing a cctv camera somewhere around a mile (or less) away from my house, and be able to view it from my pc at home? Also the place where I need the camera (my stables) has no electricity supply so could it run off a battery?! If it is possible, how do I do it and how much would it cost? Thanks

Id have thought that you could get a 12 volt camera to run off a car battery, but cant see a way of transmitting it back home. Sorry.
Edit: I presume there is no phone line either?"I'm not even supposed to be here today."0 -
You can get GPRS CCTV systems designed for building sites, but you'll find it's incredibly expensive on mobile data charges... is there a building nearby (less than 100 metres) that has a power supply and telephone line that you can come into?

The stables is 700metres away and has no phone line or electric supply so I guess thats the end of that then!

Before you give up, it might be worth checking https://www.iviewcameras.co.uk I haven't trawled through the site, but there might just be something, or perhaps they could suggest something, there must be others in your predicament.0

I use a Peak camera found here and managed to find it in the UK for under £130. It can work wirelessly and wired. Has pan/tilt but only digital zoom and manual focus. Not sure about max distance though.
It uses 802.11g protocol, which is rated at 75 meters for outdoor use. Sorry, but I cant see it working over 700 meters myself."I'm not even supposed to be here today."0 -
How about a 3G camera-phone that is set to auto-answer on ring (I had a Nokia that could do that). Set it up so that the camera is overlooking the stable then make a video call to it. No use at night though.0

Hmmm, just found this. Do you have line of sight from the stable to your house? Of course, if you do, you could just get a nice set of binoculars.:p
