Received 'eBay' item I didn't buy?!

Hiya
Looking for some advice.
Recently I've bought quite a few bit of clothing on eBay. Today I received a packet which looked like all the rest which had a top in it which I haven't bid on or won.
I can see the postcode from where it was sent but there is no return address. I have checked all the locations of the sellers I've bought from and none match is postcode.

I know lots of people will say 'just keep it' but I feel bad for the person who has mis-sent it but importantly how they got my address!

Any thoughts/ideas?
Thanks

They would have only got your address if you bought from or have do so in the past.
Are you still waiting for some items, if so you could have a quick check of the sellers completed listings to see if they were selling this top, in case they mixed up packets.

No - don't just keep it. There may be another buyer out there waiting for that item.

It may be that you are on the other end of a common issue the boards see - that the seller has sent the wrong items to the wrong buyers. We normally see it from the seller's POV but this could be the same situation here.

If that is the case then you may get a panicked email at some point when the mistake is noticed by the other buyer.

When you discover who sent it, email them. They should pay your costs either to return it to them or to the other buyer.

Under the law, the seller has 12 weeks to reclaim it. If they don't, then it becomes yours. It is not up to you to let them know you have received something you did not order.

Would you feel the same if the item was yours?
  • yes i think its come from a seller you have already bought from may not have sent item of yours to someone else just may have duplicated your addy in error, this happened with me once to be honest it was so small and light i just asked them to give me the details of where it should of gone and i sent it on just hoping one day someone might do the same for me. xxx
  • Thanks for responses. I have no intention of keeping something that is not mine.

So, I've searched eBay for this item and found it with 2 sellers that have sold one in the past few weeks. Problem is I have no association with either!

I looked on the postage label and it gives the first part of the postcode from where it was sent. Other than that as a clue I'm stuck!

    Any further advice please?
    Thanks all

Seeing as it's only two you could drop them a brief note through the ebay system asking if it was anything to do with them.

Another thought, actually, even before you do that is to look at their feedback to see if anyone has left anything for that item. If you can be bothered you could also click on the 'feedback left for others' link in their page and see who they sold it to - I do like a good mystery :D (sorry, I know it's not so much fun for you but I hope you get it sorted soon)
