Scottish Power being unfair?

Hi
I have an old boiler, as in it's 25 yrs old. I have homecare with Scottish power. My boiler was making a noise it was the fan, i called homecare and an engineer came out and fixed it, then the pilot light kept going out, an engineer came out and fixed it, BUT while this engineer was putting the boiler casing back on, I noticed him really pushing it hard. I asked if all was ok? He said he was having probs putting it back together. He left and all was well........
Until I heard popping noises coming from the boiler, this was on and off. I then touched the casing and it was burning hot, engineer came out and shut the boiler off saying the thermostat was SNAPPED and insulation panels CRACKED, not to turn back on or I do so at my own risk and they will not be responsible for what may happen. I have 3 children under 6yrs old, this was very bad news for me, it was also a fri lunch time.
I blamed the last engineer for breaking these parts when shoving bits back on. I called Scottish power and said this. Then after 4 days of no heating or hot water I find out the insulation panels are obsolete. I am to buy a new boiler.
I complain to SP, now 7 days later I am offered £50 as a good grace from them. I have said no, I am 100% sure this was because of the engineer and I want this recognised, I pay for a service, they have broken the boiler part that is not available and I'm to pay a new boiler with them giving me £50.
Does this seem fair, I dont expect a free boiler but I felt I deserved a bit more?? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

my biggest concern is was this boiler IMMEDIATELY DANGEROUS..... or merely just at risk.
If Immediately Dangerous, this boiler shouldve been capped, which from your post i dont think it was.Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0 -
I would personally accept the offer before they withdraw it.
I'm sure in your mind the engineer broke your boiler, but you seem to have no decent evidence, so I supect any legal action is out, so you're more or less at SP's mercy. Even if he did break it, I expect legally you can only recover at a maximum the value of your boiler before he broke it - which I expect is not much more than £0 bearing in mind its age.
I hope I'm not being unsympathetic, but I expect you must have realised the end of your boiler was nigh, if not after a bit of rough treatment, then very soon after. A new boiler is likely to save you lots of running costs over your old one.0
