Vodafone Upgrade Advise Needed Please

Firstly, apologies as I am not very technical regarding mobile phones.

My current contract with vodafone ends tomorrow and I am in two minds as to what to do.

Current contract is £10.50p/month for 300 minutes and unlimited texts - which is perfectly fine for me. I do however want a new phone! I have been looking at the Samsung Galaxy Ace. I realise that if I were to get this I would need data added to my contract.

So I think what I would like some advice on is:

a) Is samsung galaxy ace a good phone - all I do is ring, text, take the odd photo and if I were to get the phone, use the internet occasionally! I currently have a samsung s6500 blade which I am happy enough with, its just quite tatty now and I would like a slightly larger touch screen and better camera. I also like sony ericsson phones but dont know enough to see if there is a better phone out there for me!

b) Would I be best signing up to a new 2 year contract at £15.50p/month for 100mins, 500 texts and 250mb and getting the phone for free, or

Buying a samsung galaxy outright and take one of the the 'keep my phone' offers from vodafone of :

150mins, unlimited text and 100mb for £8/month or
300mins, unlimited texts and 500mb for £13/month (both on 365 day contract)

The offers above are from Vodafone website, would I be better ringing them or going into the store (will the offers be any different?)

And finally, if I were to ring up or go into store to try and get a better offer - can anyone advise how much data I realistically need to browse internet a bit, and maybe download the odd app?

Sorry - I realise this is very jumbled, any advice would be gratefully received.

It's one of the lowest specs Android, but if fine for your nedds.

    Better for the same price?

No. For £10.50 you can get it with 250+5000+500 on Tesco Mobile.
Buying a samsung galaxy outright and take one of the the 'keep my phone' offers from vodafone of :

150mins, unlimited text and 100mb for £8/month or
£8 buy you 300+1000+500 at Talkmobile (Voda signal). 6 months contract, not 12
300mins, unlimited texts and 500mb for £13/month (both on 365 day contract)
    £12 buy you 600+3000+750
And finally, if I were to ring up or go into store to try and get a better offer - can anyone advise how much data I realistically need to browse internet a bit, and maybe download the odd app?
If you use WiFi at home and disable automatic updates you can do with 250.

Grumbler - Thanks ever so much for replying. I hadn't really thought to look for alternative tariffs elsewhere (doh!!)

With regard my choice in phone - are there better android phones available for similar price (ie handset for circa £150 max or phone on contract with at least 250mins, 100 texts and 250mb for about £15/month)?

    Sorry for being a pain!

Huawei Ascend g300 exclusively this Friday @ Vodafone for £100

Acer Liquid Metal is £150+£7, but it's from e-bay.

Orange San Fransisco 2 and T-mobile Vivacity (the same phone in different bodies) cost about £100 on PAYG, but are better than cheap Samsungs. Locked to the networks though and not easy to unlock.

SE Xperia mini pro is £130 PAYG at O2. Am not sure that it's better than Ace. See http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3724&idPhone2=3713

    Select 'Android' in OS tab.

Dont buy mobiles from ebay, you never know if stolen
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

It was at Top-rated seller selling brand-new mobiles. The main problem I can imagine is replacing/repairing the phone under the SOGA, but I guess it comes with the manufacturer's warranty.

Amy, forget the VF shops, they'll only offer what's on their website.

If you want SIMO, then go via Twitter or the VF forum and the folk there can offer you 600 mins + unlimited/3000 texts + 500gb data + 750gb BTOpenzone for £10.25 pm.
    David.
