TT to Plusnet - no mac code

Hi I've just rung Talk Talk to get my mac code as I wish to move to Plusnet (both broadband, line rental and calls). TT have informed me I don't need a mac code due to it being on LLU which I think I've managed to understand.

The only concern I have is - is this going to cause me problems if I transfer? I just wondered if anyone had been through the process and could warn me of any pitfalls I might come across.

Cheers

    Hi there,

Thanks very much for considering us :)

If you are on an LLU service you should be able to go through our signup process without a MAC - provided you're happy to move your phone service to us as well we'll be able to get everything sorted for you. We'll transfer the phone over first and then once that's live we'll get the broadband order placed for you, it should take about two weeks in all though unfortunately there will be some downtime on the broadband side of things.

Alternatively you can call our sales team on 0800 4320200 (or 0345 1400200 if you're on a mobile with inclusive minutes) and they'll arrange it for you.

One point to note though, it's important that you let TalkTalk know you're moving away once the order's been placed. They should get an order notification telling them but it's still better to be safe than sorry.

    Hope that helps,

Hi thanks for your prompt reply.

Just one question - is there an official transfer date? This is so I know exactly what Talk Talk can and can't bill me for and when the Plusnet billing and contract period start.

Yes, you'll be given a date for the completion of the transfer order once it's been placed. That should leave you plenty of time (at least a week) to let TalkTalk know and get things sorted.

Primus and Plusnet are two different companies.

Hi Cypherite. Thanks for pointing out my error, Primus has the deal on that I am interested in. Thats what happens when you post on a Friday Evening after a weeks hard work at 68 years of age. I think my grandson is right I'm just an old foggy!!!!!!! I have also just found a thread which states that Primus use TT LLU so am I jumping out of the frying pan into the fire?

I moved into a house that was on TT. I switched to Plusnet and it was a right nightmare because of TT. Plusnet did their best but the clowns at TT wouldn't release the line for ages. I was without internet for a month whilst it was sorted (TT wasn't live when I moved in).

Be prepared for a fight with TT.

Shouldn't have any trouble leaving TalkTalk - lots of people have done it recently and from what I've read nobody has been refused. They can't actually stop you from leaving.

Hi, Just received this from TT:-

Thank you for contacting us in relation to your Migration Authorisation Code (MAC)

Further to your request for a Migration Authorisation Code (MAC) relating to your TalkTalk broadband service, this is to confirm that a MAC is not required for the transfer of your broadband service.

A MAC is the authorisation from a customer's existing broadband provider for the transfer of the broadband service, where the service is operated and controlled on the BT Openreach network.

Your broadband and landline service is provided on TalkTalk’s (fully unbundled) network. In order to transfer your service to another provider in the first instance the line needs to be transferred to BT.

If you require any further information about switching between providers, please refer to the Switching broadband provider section of the Ofcom website:
    http://consumers.ofcom.org.uk/2010/08/switching-broadband-provider

We are very sorry to hear that you are leaving TalkTalk and thank you for your custom to date

Can anyone throw any light on this :- In order to transfer your service to another provider in the first instance the line needs to be transferred to BT.

"Can anyone throw any light on this :- In order to transfer your service to another provider in the first instance the line needs to be transferred to BT."

Basically rubbish although putting a generous spin on it they mean BT Wholesale not BT Retail.
TalkTalk and Primus do use the same wholesale provider and they don't allow migrations between resellers so it would be a new line/number etc. with Primus. Same product and even worse support by the looks of it on here.
Thinkbroadband have recently come up with this tool for migrating various combinations of voice/broadband - http://www.thinkbroadband.com/guide/migration.html#migration-tool and this not so simple guide - http://www.thinkbroadband.com/guide/migration.html
