Thats your opinion and your entitled too it doesn't make my opinion any less than yours. They are ignorant people who ignore the sign so in my opinion yes they deserve contemptIf somebody knocks at my door and I'm not interested in what they're selling (be it Double Glazing or Religion) I politely tell them. To say "they deserve nothing but contempt" is terrible! These are just people (often with families) trying to make a living to pay the bills and avoid going on benefits.
If only there were enough "proper jobs" (whatever you think they are) for everybody.0 -
People who knock or ring door bells and ignore the sign bring it upon themselves if they homeowner then gets annoyed at them. Coming up with pathetic excuses like "Oh I am not here to sell anything" or "I didnt think it applies to me" does not wash with me0

There was one person on another thread who said he saw "No cold callers" signs as a "challenge" when selling Sky TV, and got very uptight when people disagreed with his viewpoint.
Personally, I think that it should be a criminal offence to attempt to sell at doors where such a sign is displayed - perhaps under some variation of the harassment or trespass laws.
When in my house, I value my privacy very highly. I do not want to be continually harassed by salesmen as if I was in the street, whether they be calling door to door on on the phone.0 -
I hate being disturbed by sales people & the like as much as anyone, although on at least one occasion it did prove useful to us ... which coincidentally was cavity wall insulation, for which we had done for under £100 thanks to national & local grants that we otherwise wouldn't have been aware of.
I do realise that many salesmen will hate doing it as much as we hate being the victim of it, having the door frequently shut in their face ... but are desperate to earn a living. Therefore I'll be polite in the first instance. The ones we should really despise are the underhand, pushy and persistent ones who won't readily take NO for an answer ... and of course those who ignore the NO SALES CALLS notices.0 -

When the opening line is "I'm not trying to sell you anything ...", it usually means that they ARE trying to sell you something, but in a rather crafty, underhand way ...0 -

You may well have qualified for FREE cavity wall insulation and some energy companies even pay YOU for insulating your house!0 -

They get my contempt too I am sick of idiots who think that the sign doesn't mean them
Because two wrongs don't make a right.0 -
