*WARNING* Tesco Home Phone and Broadband

I wrote a few months back that I was joining to join Tesco for the above services and I joined via Quidco (£80.80 at the time). Now here's the update 4 months later.

The short version - Avoid.

The long version Avoid Avoid Avoid.

Quidco didn't track - Tesco haven't looked at the manual claim.

Broadband is OK, nothing startling. Speeds can be really good or really poor, it's a bit hit and miss.

Home Phone is a disaster, can't call certain landline numbers (including Tesco Customer Services), Tesco and their landline wholesaler Cable and Wireless Worldwide haven't manage to fix it in over 3 months.

Customer Services when you do get through (via a mobile) is poor, very poor.

I just signed up to tesco home phone and broadband at the beginning of this week.

    Thank you for this message.
I just went to broadband genie and saw even more terrible reviews.
I've just put a post up in the internet provider forum on here on how to change before I have even got the router etc

Under DSR you have rights to cancel, but it can be messy if you factor in the potential for incompetence. Assuming you get a router sent, refuse delivery of this if you possibly can.

you can cancel before the activation date without any complications also tesco do give you 3 months to ''try'' in other words if it doesnt work you can move without penalties its all in terms and conditions so have look/read:)

This messiness is what I am worried about.

I've read negative reviews on all ISP's but the common complaints with tesco is losing connection all the time, and very slow speeds.
I need my internet connection, because I am not well enough to go out to work, and may need to find work online if the DWP find me fit for work.

Would you be able to tell me what type of complications I can expect please?

Do I contact a new ISP at this stage?

Also, my old ISP and phone companies are disconnecting me on the 30th, who will have my MAC number, and will I need to get it off them to give to the new supplier or will tesco do that?

    Thanks, dreading complications. :(

Tesco sent me my welcome pack and there is a neat little T&C booklet.

If I cancel before the cooling off period, (10am on the working day before I am due to go live) I will not incur any charges.

If I cancel after the cooling off period and before my mininum term (12 months) I will incur an Early Termination Charge. It gets even more complicated if I wait until after the cooling off period.

    Thanks
  • Tesco broadband and line rental bought online has what I can only describe as the worst customer service I have come across recently. I think that all the old Sky staff who were so bad 2 years ago must have moved to Tesco now.
For 3 months, my bill has been wrongly charged instead of taking the clubcard rewards they say you can pay with.
Each month they have made a different excuse for the error. Each month, they take more money.
Now they BLAME ME for how i signed up incorrectly and will not even bother to send clubcard vouchers back.

I am leaving them before they try and take another payment from my bank, AND I recommend checking your bills, checking that offers have been rewarded, but mostly I suggest NOT USING TESCO broadband and homephone at all.
The rudeness from a manager sealed it for me today.

    Oh, dear, that sounds awful.
    You must be really frustrated.
Are you on the contract where you can leave anytime without incurring an early termination charge?

In the end, I never stayed with Tesco, as above. I cancelled the order, and am now with BT infinity 2 which I am much happier with (they haven't sorted out my free mcaffee software, yet, but I'm happy with Microsoft Security Essantials anyway.

I was naiive and struck by all of these cheap internet deals, and I never noted that the advertised speeds were just 'upto' figures. I pay a little more for BT infinity 2, but its all good.

I really hope you get sorted with getting a decent, ISP, please let us know.

    Thanks
