iphone 3GS, 16GB question

Hi folks,

A friend of mine has offered to sell me their iphone 3GS 16GB for £125. I wondered if this was a good price, as I have no idea.

Also, the iphone is locked to O2 at the moment. I use giffgaff and would want to stay with them - can the iphone be unlocked and where would I get that done, would it be one of those shops on the high street?

My final question is can the iphone be used okay with giffgaff? I usually get a £10 goodybag every month.

I hope someone can answer my questions :)

    Have a look at ebay?

Your friend has to unlock it via O2. They may charge him for this.
However, it is likely to work with giffgaff sim without unlocking.

Why not? They even do micro-sims for 4/4s

If its in good condition the price would be about right ... Watch some on eBay if you want. Maybe offer 100!?

A google suggests that O2 pay monthly customers can unlock their iphone free of charge ... Get your friend to do it as part of the deal.

£10 giffgaff deal is good. Go for it.

Thank you so much, folks. That is just the information I needed :) Good to know giffgaff should work with O2 but probably a good idea to get it unlocked anyway if poss so I will ask my friend. Will also try and get the price lower if I can. Thanks again, much appreciated :)

Indeed ... If the original user doesn't get it unlocked it is almost impossible to do later.

Thanks jbainbridge...good point. Although, I have to say, after doing a bit of research into the battery life of the iphone, I'm wondering if it's such a good purchase after all. My current phone is just a bog standard non-smartphone type of thing and I get irritated when the battery runs down after several days, so having to charge the iphone every evening (or sooner?) would perhaps overshadow the benefits. :(

Meh. It's disappointing isn't it? I know these type of phones use a lot of energy, but it's surely a serious downside.
