May 2012 Grocery Challenge

Today, after doing my weekly shop, I calculated how much money I have spent on groceries in May. It totalled £228.00  We are only 11 days in! Our normal monthly spend is about £320.00 -£340.00 so I am staggered I have spent so much already. However the cupboards and the freezer provide the evidence as I cannot physically get anything else in them. They are groaning under the strain.
So my plea to you is to help keep me on track. I do not need to buy anything more until next weekend, and then, it will need only to be fresh fruit, veg, bread and packed lunch items.
I am very good at meal plans, but not so good at sticking to them. Keeping an account here should keep me focused.
Thanking you all in advance. If Plan A fails, remember there are 25 more letters0 -

Today DD has a friend round for the day so tonight it's a 'healthy' meal of pizza, chips, coleslaw & cucumber. DD has already mentioned that she wants to do some cooking so whatever she makes will be pudding.
I bought so much yesterday, I couldn't get everything in the freezer so there are some items sat in the fridge. Last nights meal should have created some space in the freezer so I should be able to juggle it round a bit.
I do feel incredibly foolish. There has been no need to stock up, but I have! Oh well. It's done now. Let's just hope the freezer doesn't break down!!If Plan A fails, remember there are 25 more letters0 -

Well, you are not the only one! I've taken the month off from the Grocery Challenge because I underspent my target quite dramatically in April, so I thought I wasn't doing too badly & could relax a little. BUT so far this month I've already spent £250 of the £350 I'm "allowing" myself! Mind you, like you, my freezer's full and following a visit to our local mill, I now have £40-worth of flour, which will last us 6 months. So perhaps I should creep over there, confess all & try a bit harder...Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

Oh dear. I was allowing myself a month "off" after underspending in April. Not a good idea - so far this month I've spent £250 of the £350 I "allow" myself for groceries etc! But the freezers are full and I now have 6 months-worth of flour in the cupboards after a trip to the mill, so we won't starve. FWIW I'll probably have to go a bit over £350 as cat food stocks are getting low (we have 3) so perhaps I'll set a target of £380 in total for May.Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0
