Can you not use public transport to visit Lid. ? I go to my nearest one by bus.

Thanks but unfortunately it's not on a bus route from where I live and A!di is 2 bus journeys away - the cost of which would not be worth the savings (I live 5 miles from the nearest town and it costs £1.80 just to get there, then it's another bus ride from there).

Hello Mrs AtS. Does your DH work near Lidl? Would he follow a shopping list or is it too dangerous? ;) Could you go once a week instead? I've found a big difference in our shopping since making a list and only going once a week. HTH. :)

Thanks. He doesn't go near any supermarkets (and from experience would probably not buy everything on the list and then get all sorts of "extras" as well ;)) but I may be able to go at the weekend if I get a chance! I was going there during the week on my way back from Uni so would have to make a special journey but the savings may be worth it.

Just a thought but very often the best offers are on at the weekend, could you do your shop on a saturday morning?

Thanks - I may think about this as an option as I think the savings would probably be worth the petrol money. I could possibly go once every 2 weeks and stock up on the bargains :)

Hi, I've just done my last shop of the month. Some things are for the weekend so I'm putting them on for June.;)

So my last May shop came to £15.65 at !id! On all the basics for the week. Total for May £273.50/£260. Not too worried at going over as it's the first time since starting the challenge. Will try harder next month!:p

Angelatgraceland, I've started using sunflower oil in my bread, 3tbsp in a large loaf. I never bother with the milk powder either, too much of a faff! I need to try other things in it though, I always make the same 50/50 loaf. Maybe that's my June challenge!

Sorry haven't been on here for a few days and need to catch up with all the posts!!

I think I have come in under budget at £349 odd, but not sure as I have changed the way I am doing my second purse and so from June's GB had to pay out some £200, so would have paid that from last month's budget had I continued with paying it back weekly!! So depends on which way you look at it - I was either on budget or a MASSIVE overspend!!!

I used 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil(actually its rapeseed oil when I read the small print). My loaf isnt asking for dried milk-the old BM did tho. I have mainly been doing the XL white loaf and a five seeded loaf(5 if you are lucky but sometimes 3)
Ive also done one with sultanas and cherries. Bought some omega sprinkle in Holl+B when the penny sale was on so that will work. Depends what is on offer really! I must try a 50/50 load. I madde 2 loaves today, one seeded and one white-it really is on every single day!

I have just done my last shop of the month and will declare at £96.43 which is a little unrepresentative as I was away for a week and will be again in June, so I am just off to try and work out a reasonable amount for the time I am here. Have been off to DD's and I am mortified by the amount of waste and double-purchases that are made. I think they have improved over the last year so there is hope yet!

  • Have to say I agree with you. There is another simple method! If you get a bogof put the value of it in a second puse and when you need to stock up-maybe once a month-use this to buy your storecupboard items. It will show you what you have gained with bogofs etc. Personally I can't be bothered to do any of it as I just live on deals all the time! However-I do appreciate that for some people it is indeed the way forward and a great way of focussing!
To be honest, my budget is really small, and i like the easy life, but i know some people find it really useful and even build up 3rd purses, which is great, i just spend less and then have more for other bits.

I used my new panny to make a pizza dough - so much easier than doing it by hand! Shove the ingredients in, and come back 45 mins later! Nice!

It's currently on now, baking a normal bread. I do like a cheese and onion one though, which I do by using normal mix, and adding some grated cheese and dried onions. Lush!
