Proof of Postage Receipt the same as Certificate of Postage?

I won an auction on a dress in which the seller had listed the wrong measurements. When the dress arrived and I realised the problem, we arranged that I would return the dress and she would refund me. I sent the dress back via first class post and obtained a proof of postage receipt with the postcode and the number of the address (but nothing else of the address was written on by the cashier). This was over 2 weeks ago and it hasn't arrived back with the seller. I'm now about to try and put in a claim with Royal Mail but wanted to ask if they'd treat the receipt as the same as a certificate of postage - sometimes in the past I've been informed that they don't have the certificates and that the receipt is the same. If anyone does know the answer and can help me I'd be very grateful

Yes, you'll be fine with the receipt as long as it has the details you say.Life should be a little nuts; otherwise it's just a bunch of Thursdays strung together.0

I work for the post office and all we put on these receipts is the house number and postcode. These receipts are used just the same as a certificate of posting. Hope this helps!0

I sent a parcel that was never delivered and when i sent my proof of postage receipt to royal mail with the claim form I got a letter back saying they couldnt do anything as i needed a certificate of posting. The parcel turned up a day or two later back at my address as I had sender details on it so I never did get back to royal mail to tell them I had sent them the proof of postage.

I had this discussion in the PO last week with the manager. I'd filled in a certificate for about 6 items. He said that if you needed to claim then you wouldn't have the certificate for the other 5. Although it would have to be bad luck for them to lose more than 1. He said the printed receipt with the space to write the address/house number and postcode were sufficient as proof and you get one for each separate item so a better idea.0

Makes you wonder why the receipts print with 4 lines for addresses at the bottom...

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -

Not all post offices print one receipt per "stamp" purchased. One I go to does (and I hate the waste of paper when I'm sending lots of things at once) but at another they all come out on the one receipt with space for 4 or so addresses at the bottom.0 -
Don't forget if it takes more than 5 days to arrive then you can claim a postal refund! I sent a small packet which arrived 8 days later. I complained to Royal Mail & they sent me a book of 12 first class stamps.0

You'd think there would be a 'standard' for certain services across the whole of the PO's. Once I asked for a certificate of posting the lady serving just gave me the receipts. I said "I think it needs the address on it". She just wrote the postcode and not the house number. I ended up standing there doing it myself! Either no training or lack of interest.0

One post office near me is happy to put each item on a different receipt so that if more than one got lost I could just use the necessary receipt. Another one will only lump them all together.0

Please do not forget to photocopy everything you send - just in case it gets lost (yes it did happen to me - but I had a copy!!)What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0
