I've just signed into my hotmail account from android phone, and I got this email
Using this service will be free of charge in the UK for the next 14 days, unless you’re a pay monthly customer using Mobile Mail and have the first month free.

Get started

Now that you’ve signed into an email account from your mobile, you can use it just as you would do from a PC, with all those familiar functions – Send, Read, Reply, Reply All and Forward

What happens after my trial ends?

After your free trial, to carry on using this service go to http://orangeworld.co.uk/r/mobilemail/ from your phone to see our latest offers and upgrade to a Mobile Mail add on for just a few pounds per month. Or call customer service, from your Orange phone, on 150 if you’re a pay monthly personal customer, 450 if you’re a pay as you go customer, or 345 if you’re a business customer.

Without an extra or mobile email inclusive on your plan the service will stop working.

If you signed up for mobile email with the first month free when you joined Orange, then your trial will be free for 30 days, after which you need do nothing more to continue using the service. The charges for Mobile Mail will appear on your bill. To unsubscribe from first month free, click this link from your phone: http://orangeworld.co.uk/r/emailsetup/

More than one email account

You can add between 3 and 5 email accounts, depending on your mobile. Switch from account to account in a click – it’s never been so easy.

Orange plans

Orange now offers plans that include unlimited mobile email along with texts, minutes and other nifty stuff too, if you want. Either way, you can be sure there are no additional data costs to pay, it's all inclusive and unlimited. Click on the link shown above for more information.

Please check http://orangeworld.co.uk/r/mobilemail/ from your Orange phone for more details and FAQs on this service.

We hope you enjoy using Mobile Mail.

Orange

So will orange charge me after the 14 days, if so how much and how can I cancel (I tried the link and it doesn't seem to work).

Pay as you go customers, your weekly service will begin from the time we receive payment for the service. The service is a rolling subscription meaning it will automatically take £1 from your account each week or when funds are available. Your service will be suspended if you have less than £1 on your account. We'll send a confirmation text message when payment has been taken. Please note any emails received in your mailbox while your service is suspended won't be delivered to your phone.

Pay monthly customers, your monthly service will begin from the time we receive £5 per month payment.

I am guessing its some sort of messaging instant email service through Orange - OP could avoid that by not setting up email on the phone and check email via the browser (which would just mean browsing with a data allowance).

Just been in touch with Orange apparently that's just about the data.
  • I think you are going to get a bill with Mobile Mail and Orange. They charge for the mail service as well as the data.

You can delete the app from your homescreen (from the phone will probably require "root" access).

Use either the Hotmail app (nice but uses rather a lot of memory) or another app (say K9 mail) and you will only pay for data used.

Well A) I'm on Orange, B) They're cheapest, C) They offer 6 months warranty as standard, and D) I got money off the phone due to phone fund.
Tbh I'd much rather buy from the network direct.
