Satellite Internet? Any good? Prices worth it?

Anyone using satellite broadband? I know it's a bit pricey but I live on the outskirts of Haslemere where my home internet is, well, useless so I might have no choice (BT are doing little to sort the issue of cabling from what I read).
Anyone using it? Is it worth it? And who's worth looking at as a provider?

Says that FTTC is available in some areas.
What do your line stats look like? That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
FTTC is still pretty poor down copper wires I hear though if it has to travel so far?
What do you mean by line stats? Bare in mind I'm not the techie type!0 -
Line statistics, have a look here. http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.php
Fibre to the cabinet brings the optical connection much closer to your home, as a result your internet speeds will improve.
I take it BT Infinity has not reached you yet. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Will try it when I get home from work. No BT Infinity from what I've seen/heard. No.
Surely if you're fair away from the cabinet it's still not great. Even when I was in Southsea 4 years ago my flat was a few roads (about 800 yards) from the cabinet and I noticed the net could be painfully slow for downloading. Although I have no clue where the nearest cabinet is to my current house.0 -
I'm looking at this site I found right now that seems to list a few suppliers, Someone explain what these packages/specs mean? 10mps is pretty small if I'm correct? http://www.toowaycompare.com/0

Estimated monthly volume is 13GB, enough for:
- 540 hours browsing
- 40 clips
- 120 tracks
- 250 photos
How can they guess that? Clips? How long is a clip? And as for photos there is no universal size! I'm guessing tracks is streaming music?0 -

There not suppliers but resellers of the same service. It not 10mps its 6 to 10Mbps which is the download speed. Data limits are from 4 to 25Gb per month at £25 to £99 per month i.e. expensive.0 -
I'll check my internet speeds tonight when I'm home. Sure one of you can help. My net is slow at the best of times but the whole tech side of it baffles me. you may have guessed that...0

Ahh so they're all the same service from different sellers, like retail?0
