Wireless router-NTL broadband

I am a female who is not very technical.

We have a desktop Pc in the lounge which has broadband-connected by an NTL modem.

I want to move the Desk top Pc into the family room- across the hallway and then get a laptop for me.

Am I right in thinking that I need to buy a wireless router to plug into the modem in the lounge, and then I will be able to use broadband on PC inother room and say Laptop upstairs?

Is it hard to set up? Also what sort of cost are we talking about?

Pc and Laptop just used for normal home stuff and surfing.

The laptop should come with wireless on it.

A good place to look and they also explain the difference between ADSL and CABLE is the Argos catalog check pages 544 545. This will help you decide what you need.

Am I right in thinking that the USB option will be easier? also does it mean if I want to take away internet accress or restrict it I can just take USB out?

USb is far easier than inserting a board into the PC and yes, take away the usb you take away internet access

My desktop is Windows XP and my Laptop will be Vista home premium, will this cause a problem?

I saw the BBC is reporting that the so-called 'easy setup' disks from broadband suppliers won't work on Vista. However, is seems Vista networking can be set-up OK using just the config. programs in-built to Vista.

Connected by USB or Ethernet? IMHO, get the PC and modem connected and working by Ethernet first, as that'll be how a router connects. So you steps would be-

1) Get PC and modem working by wired Ethernet (if required)
2) Insert router, wired with ethernet to modem and PC and get working
3) Switch on router wireless, no encryption and get laptop connected
4) Enable wireless encryption on router and laptop, get working
5) Move PC, add wireless, set-up encryption, connect to router
