I know where all the chippys are but I've no idea which is best for haddock I'm afraid. There's a new place called Darbey's which opened a couple of weeks back where you can eat in so that might be worth checking out. It's on Station Road (the pedestrianised street which runs parallel to Penrhyn Road) just next door to WH Smith.

As Greenface suggested the zoo is well worth a visit. The shuttle bus from the station is free, it's usually a zebra printed mini-bus registration BU52 ZOO (i.e. BUS 2 ZOO) so it's hard to miss.

There's a street market in the town centre every Saturday which might be worth a browse, although it's usually 95%+ tat.

Slightly further afield there's a Celtic Fayre in Conwy - http://www.celticfayres.co.uk/. There's a direct train service from Colwyn Bay to Conwy (and Conwy station is in the town centre) which takes about eight minutes although it is expensive given the journey time at £4.30. However Conwy is always worth a visit, even if there isn't a Celtic Fayre going on.
The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water
