Well not quite, but I'm still being a bit thick.
I'm looking at getting this bathroom light and can't work out what sort of bulb it takes - I don't want anything that's going to be hard to find. Or is it a bog standard low energy bulb?

Anyone point me in the right direction?
Cheers.

CFL is a compact fluorescent. Very widely available. Beware that these do not give out a lot of light and need to warm up. If you need or want good bright lighting in the bathroom I'd recommend halogen. You will still need a bathroom rated light fitting. My wife likes bright lighting - we have a bathroom light with a 1000 watt halogen. Have a look at

Thanks - it's only a small bathroom with the ceiling on a slope from about half way down. At the moment there's a pendant fitting with an old fashioned 60w bulb. So I'm looking for something that chucks out a similar amount of light (doesn't need to be any brighter) but has a smaller diameter, about 20 cm give or take.
A lot of the ones I've looked at are 30 cm which is too big.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Looking at the Amazon page, it takes a GX53 lamp, which is not the normal sort of CFL bulb you can buy for pennies from the local supermarket.
Do a quick Google for "GX53" for what they look like, and what they cost.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

1kW! Of lighting in a bathroom! It's either massive bathroom or the wife likes a little brain surgery while taking a soak. My whole house does not have 1000 watts. At least you don't need the heating on.0 -

I do not think you have 1000w light in you bathroom, if the luminaire you show in the link is the said light then you have 2 x 40watt which equal 80watts not 1,000w0 -
I think youd boil alive in a room with a 1000W halogen

Oops - I was just looking at the pictures! The fitting looks similar to this one. It is a fitting designed for a bathroom and it does use a 1000w lamp (just like the ones in security lights).
I know it seems excessive but believe me it does the job. Before his we had a fitting with 3 50w GU10 lamps and it was dim.this fitting is now in our downstairs loo and still seems dim.
Glad I gave everyone a laugh! :-)0 -
I'm still not sure you mean what you're saying, Yorksboy!
As far as I can see, 50w GU10s emit around 800 lumens, so three would produce maybe 2,500 lumens. That's bright, the equivalent of two 100w incandescents in the same fitting.
But a 1,000w lamp (even if merely an incandescent) would produce in excess of 13,000 lumens!! I wouldn't want to be in the same house as that, never mind the same room.
Interestingly, a Google suggests that the main use for 1000w lamps is for growing marijuana. Now, I think I see where you're coming from...0 -
A 1000w lamp in a bathroom. I don't believe it. That is ridiculous.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
Also do not take Yorkboy'sCFL is a compact fluorescent. Very widely available. Beware that these do not give out a lot of light and need to warm up. ] as gospel.
We have just replaced 50W halogen down lighters with CFLs. Ours give out MORE light."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
