Ive opened many accounts online/postal for my elderly relative over the past few years, and I dont ever recall having this problem before. Previously when providing ID, Ive sent various items with just her initials and surname above the address as well as sometimes something bearing her whole christian name and never had a problem.
This time I happened to use 2 ID's which varied slightly in that on one her full christian name showed as Gracie and one as Grace .
Santander wont accept her application with this discrepancy . However it will be fine if I replace one ID with just her initials preceding her surname ! So, ID's Mrs G. Bloggs and Gracie Bloggs are acceptable , but Mrs Gracie Bloggs and Mrs Grace Bloggs of the same address and same NI number, are not. Seems overpicky to me - and now a further week wasted with funds languishing outside an ISA.

To be fair I can understand that. I had one just a few weeks ago where the deed poll document has one name but the driving licence has a variation.

It' a judgement call and puts the onus on the person to make that judgement call and accept the risks or get further information to protect themselves.

Lets hope they are just as diligent when it comes to putting the money in the right account and giving her the right interest lol!

Between Grace and Gracie (which is presumably what she is generally known as)? :(

I'm with ANGLICANPAT on this one.
    It seems much too overpicky!

There are lots of people who use a slight variant of the name on their birth certificate. (Sometimes because the name is spelt wrongly/oddly on the certificate.)

I realise you are merely saying it is a judgement call - and not saying that you yourself would refuse to accept this particular 'discrepancy'.

But has common-sense really disappeared to that extent?

As I am the one that is being fined or prosecuted if its wrong, its up to me to decide. However, in this case I would probably ask for one more piece of evidence (or go with most official documents e.g. passport, driv licence). Problem with large companies is that they staff dont have the discretion as its their managers that face prosecution or the staff member doesnt have the common sense.

Gracie is the name on birth cert and the one on paperwork from pensions, tax etc . Grace is the preferred name for the owner of it, and most of her other paperwork/accounts is in that name, which has made it a bit difficult to find pieces of ID that 'match' in exact name, when you have to find 'one' from list A and one from list B etc , as most of the ones she has that I could use for her in the one list are generally Gracie and in the other one Grace. Luckily, at the moment, there is one with just initials I can use.

I would not accept two forms of ID with one saying Gracie and one saying Grace.

It would be rejected as an anti money laundering error and could result in the staff member being put on a development plan or have their wages docked.
