Present for a new baby

My friend has just had a baby boy. It's her 2nd and the first one is not even 2 yet. So she doesn't need anything practical and I was wondering what to get her. When her first baby was born we bought a lovely little wooden music box for around £15. I would like to spend the same again and for it to be something that could be kept but played with.

Any ideas?

What about something to treat your friend if it's her second? Maybe a voucher towards a beauty treatment or something else to make her feel like a woman again instead of just a mum with two small children.

or make some time to spend with the older child as she'll be juggling sharing her time.
  • What about a nice print/picture for the nursery wall.

Alternatively buy a nice photo frame so when they get some pics done they can put one in it.

Something for Mum would also be nice and a little gift for the elder child so they don't feel left out.

I was in the same position 2 years ago, new baby ,toddler , the thing which has been most loved is a "taggies" type comfort toy/teddy .it's a snuggly that will belong to the new baby and as they grow older they take the taggie snuggly to bed with them and stroke the tags! simple but comforting..

There's another thread running here with some more ideas.
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.

Thanks for all your ideas. I will be getting the mum something anyway - that goes without saying! :) I have been having a look around and have decided to get a wooden name train. The baby has quite an unusual name so it will be nice for them to have something personalised. I also remember having a new baby in the house and it takes a while for the novelty of the name to wear off. Then when he's bigger he can play with it too.

This is the link http://www.pictureproud.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=68&products_id=208 - I have seen a better picture of the letters elsewhere so I can see how lovely they are but this was the cheapest place to get them from.
