New baby gifts

My brother is having his first baby in June, and I'm looking for some unusual or special gift ideas. I dont have kids so not really sure!
Was thinking about a nappy cake thing, but it would have to be eco friendly.
Or something special for the baby (its gonna be a girl) that it could keep for years to come?!
Dont mind too much on price (as long as not extortionate) as first neice/nephew, and first grandchild for my dad.
Any different ideas greatly appreciated!

check https://www.candle-delight.co.uk. they do personalised candles. you can have a photo of the new born baby on the candle and birth details on the back. its a hurricane candle. i.e its a hollow candle and you place a tealight inside and it illuminates the shell and you can use it again and again and the outside shell does n't burn. its £30 and you can't buy it from a your high street so its special and personal. if you want to have it before baby is born you can have a art image of baby girl and a poem/verse on the back. ring the company they usually help you design the candle and they are really good. ild reccomend them

My Mam has a pair with mine and my brothers details on, and I've got a pair with my boys details on.
Here I go again on my own....

these are expensive but worth it i think - imagine someone's face when they get a bouquet and then realise each flower is a piece of clothing

I've just made a nappy cake, I didn't do it eco friendly (not my choice ), but I have seen them done with bio degradeable nappies and also with terries. It was trickier to make than I thought, but then I am not at all creative! It has turned out really well though, I won't post a link to a pic though cos the recipient reads these boards and won't see it till the weekend ;-) But if you want to see it PM me.

We looked through loads and loads of stuff beforehand and decided against keepsakes as we are trying hard to declutter ourselves, and didn't want to give other people gifts that they will have to store for years to come.
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.

    Hi,

Where are you based? or are you looking to buy something off the internet?

What about a "Memories Box" a rather large box which you could put an engraved plaque on with relevant info: Name, DOB weight etc. Inside you could put a copy of the Times newspaper from the day the baby was born, the chart cd, coins from the Royal Mint from this year, a nice baby journal for the parents to fill in in the future, a nice charm bracelet. I'm sure you get the picture...

If the box is big enough the parents can put in all the baby cards and ribbons, id tags from hospital, first photos and when the baby gets older first pictures and home made mothers day cards etc. I was given one of these by my inlaws for my sons baptism and the only thing I would say is that the box could have done with being a bit bigger and he has only just turned two.

This way you can do it as cheap as you like or make it expensive. You could also buy things every year to go into the box so the child can look back on it when they are older. You can go anywhere with a present like this and make it really personal too
