civil ceremony songs

Careful with Robbie Williams angels too, lots of civil ceremonies won't allow it. I think hallelujah might be a close call too!
I think I'm entering to she by Elvis Costello. Oh wanted to leave to the bottom theme music lol! Love the idea of leaving to crazy little thing called love by queen x0 -
Yep, good point by crowdpleaser. We had to submit our music & readings to the registrar & they had strict guidlines about no religious connotations whatsoever.0

So thanks to this thread I had a long think about the music we were going to have - and decided they weren't good enough. They were lovely twinkly type pieces but they weren't personal to us.
So instead we've decided on:
I'm going to walk in to "Home At Last" the final piece of music from the film Labyrinth (my all time favourite as a child).
For the signing of the register we're having "The Rain Song" a 'love ballard' by Led Zeppelin (MrD's choice).
So now we're left with trying to find something to leave the ceremony to.
Have looked at 'our' song (well the last dance song that used to be played at the club we used to visit) - Ronan Keeting "when you say nothing at all" - but I don't like it (no offense).
Have looked at what was No1 on the day we met - Ricky Martin "Livin La Vida Loco" which while I love having a good old boogy to it I'm not sure about having it as we leave. Ideally we'd like whatever we choose to be instrumental. (The Labyrinth song is instrumental, the Led Zeppelin song is over 7 minutes long and is predominantly instrumental).
So this leads me to ask - how did you choose your pieces? I'm hoping that through this you'll get my mind working to help find a piece of music that is meaningful to us both. Argh!0 -

But what's crazy is the inconsistency. Ours (Chester and West Cheshire) are really relaxed about it and have even allowed Ave Maria. Our registrar told us she only stops actual hymns but doesn't mind anything else. Yet others are so much more strict - why can't they all apply the same rules?0 -
Thank you so much to the poster who mentioned the vitamin string quartet, they make a nice spin on modern songs, downloaded quite a few now to make up our list!!
Thanks again! :T

I imagine they all have a set of restrictions etc, but that the variation lies in the fact that some Registrars may be more relaxed than others.0 -
I know ours are very strict from friends previous experience. They really struggled to get 7 songs without having to resort to the same stuff as everyone else has played - she actually said it might be worth it for an easy life.
when my dad remarried they had lots of dreamboats and petticoats type songs as that was from when they were both teenagers. It was great to see them both singing along as they signed the register. When you're chewing on life's gristle, don't grumble, give a whistle.
