What would happen if a large supermarket was adjacent to a sports stadium, and patrons were able to use the car park to visit the stadium shop, or to visit the supermarket, but NOT able to use the carpark for matchday parking, nor to exceed a two-hour limit?
Would the same rules apply? There's a MASSIVE sign on the way in saying NO MATCHDAY PARKING - is it enforceable? I currently park miles away and walk, but that's a pain with 4 kids, and the ground have recently stated there's nowhere to store my pushchair either.
What say you, o wise MSExperts?

Firstly, let's assume that you got the signage right, and it does create a deemed contract with someone driving past it in a car.
However, even if someone breaks the contract, all you can claim from them is your losses as a direct result of this.
If you don't charge for over 2 hours, your losses are £0.00. If you charge, say, £5.00, then your loss is £5.00. If, however, you charge, say, £50.00, then that could be argued to be an unreasonable contractual penalty, and you're in PPC-land.The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

My understanding is that if you overstay, they start writing to you, in a PPC-type fashion.
It is a free carpark. I never got close enough to read the signs

Legally unenforceable, but this is exactly the sort of situation that persuade landowners to bring in PPC's, since no doubt without that big sign no supermarket customer would be able to find any where to park every time there was a match.0

So is there a parking company in place to monitor this? Or is it a do-it-yourself on the part of the supermarket?0

If you do get an unenforceable speculative invoice from the PPC infesting the car park, we all know what to do with it.The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

Pretty sure there's a PPC managing it. There's one managing my local Asda as well - they had a load of goons circling the carpark the other day. First time I've seen them there. Meh. I'm not scared ;o)
ETA: the sporting events are spread over a Fri, Sat and Sun, varying each fortnight, as the team plays home, then away. It's not like the place would be mobbed EVERY Saturday or whatever, if you see what I mean.0 -

Have you been to Aberdeen then?
Because the Beach Retail Park has it in its planning conditions that the car park must also be made available for match parking at Pittodrie (NO LAUGHING! plz!) and for other public events at the beach.
Which was fine when the council were also the park landlords and factors for the stores there but since they sold-off their retail parks a few years back, the usual collection of shonky PPCs have taken over and pay this no heed at all. A similar situation also applies at another formerly council-owned retail park that was required to serve as parking for a local college and no-doubt the two other sites they sold had similar conditions for other local purposes.
In fact complaints and reports in the local press have followed the usual misinformation about PPC "fining" and "appeals" and the council have done absolutely nothing to rectify the position nor enforce the conditions.0 -
Never been to Aberdeen, though I have a cousin who used to live there! It's a shame when councils run out of money though. But hey! it's only PPC's, you can ignore them!
This is a good bit further south, though just as rainy, I think.0 -
If it's anything like my local football club, parking doesn't cause any problem, as all the supporters car-share so there are only three cars to be parked.0

While any PPC invoice is completely unenforceable it seems reasonable that the supermarket takes steps to prevent supporter parking. The council may well have placed a planning condition on the stadium to minimise supporter traffic and parking. By parking in the supermarket to go to a sporting event you may be causing the club issues - especially if expansion of the stadium is required at a later date. While not a supermarket car park, here in Sussex too many people have been parking in local residential streets on match days - the result - the club are having to look at funding a residents parking scheme for these streets. To help pay for this all tickets next season will have an extra charge added so everyone has been hit whether they parked there or not.All aboard the Gus Bus !0
