I must agree the most effective way I have found so far is a kettle of boiling water down their nest but my Mum swears by her recipie equal parts of icing sugar and bicarbonate of soda, sprinkle as you would ant powder. The ants are attracted to the icing sugar and whilst eating, pick up the bicarb which expands in their tums.

Found they were coming in under the sink. Also found we had a leak and it was soaking wet there. Sorted the leak, dried it out and no more slugs.

    Big thanks Suki

Checked out behind dishwasher and washing machine and really damp, had to call in insurance people as it turns out the floor is damp too!:o

Came today and it turns out we have a leak somewhere??? and it means all the lino and the floor needs to be teken up and half the cupboards removed some replaced! Did I look stupid or what!

So it is in fact a major problem not just slugs but being on here and listening to you all made me think about it and apparently it has probably been going on for the 3 years we have lived here!!

    Thanks again

We live out in the sticks surrounded by farms and all through July and August as the fields (particularly the rape seed) is ready to crop we are plagued with harvest flies (some people call the thunder flies or yellow jackets) Everytime you go out in pale or bright clothing you are dive bombed and covered. They swarm in almost Biblical proportions, you really do have to witness it to believe it.Indoors they get everywhere, behind wall paper and inside glass fronted pictures. Keeping windows and doors shut just doesn't seem to keep them out. Does anyone have a known cure?

  • Hi,

We seem to have had an influx of creepy crawlies over the summer, much more so than usual. It seems every time a window or a door is opened we get flies or big queen bees around. I don't like killing them but I just wondered if there is anyway to deter them/ get rid of them harmlessly. We have had moths too and my mum noticed the other day that she had small holes in her new clothes. We are worried about hygiene too as we are finding dead flies and bees around and we like to keep a clean house. On the plus side I'm pretty sure our garden is being nicely pollenated :D !

I'm having the same problem (also slugs get in at night and I have no idea how but they love my shoes!).
Lets hope some one will post some ideas!

I've got an oil burner with some citronella in and it seems to be helping keep the flies out of the kitchen.
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.
  • I keep all my orange peel and lemon peel tear it into pieces add hot water and leave where the little bug***s are coming in.
I also bought some stick on fly screens from poundland for the windows
