I know low blood sugar makes me grumpy - I warn DH not to come near me when I've got the jitters.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

I think the nail is hit firmly on the head here! DH became grumpy again mid afternoon today, and again it was because he was hungry. I don't normally let him get to the hunger stage, never mind 2 days running! This morning we wrapped up warm and went out to a Nat Trust place as the sun was shinning. What a glorious day and we all benefited from being outside in the sunshine getting some exercise. They have 2 kids play areas and a low ropes course so there was plenty to keep everyone busy. I'd put a soup on in the slow cooker so it'd be ready as soon as we got home, but we were out longer than I'd imagined we would be so DH was getting tetchy and hungry by the time we got back! On the positive though we got yet more use out of our annual membership and I'm definitely thinking about renewing when it's up at the end of April.

Lucky, I learned during pregnancy (what a lonnnng time ago that was) to always carry an apple, which kept me going. Perhaps DH needs to do that?

Glad you managed to get out and about at the weekend Lucky. The weather was glorious wasn't it, almost warm in the sun yesterday. We used to have some lovely Sundays out with our kids when they were little. Re the low blood sugar - having some carbs makes me feel better.

You've definitely had your money's worth, so I'd say its worthwhile dipping into the family budget and renewing (or another annual pass to somewhere else). At least you know you've got another year of 'days out' you can plan for.

I've currently got an annual to the Royal Museums Greenwich, which includes the National Maritime Museum, The Cutty Sark, The Queen's House (no, haven't been yet), and The Royal Observatory Greenwich. I've been a few times to the NMM for exhibitions and The Cutty Sark a couple of weeks ago. I'd managed to get an all day Rover ticket on the boats for £5, so that was good.
  • We've definitely had our monies worth out of the NT and English Herritage memberships and neither are finished so more chance to use them again before they end. When you think it's £20 a shot for a family ticket to most of these places, you only have to go 3 or 4 times and it's paid for itself. Plus I got them on special deals so they were even cheaper (the EH one I used Clubc@rd vouchers to pay for more than half of it). It's lovely knowing that all we need over the summer is diesel in the car and a picnic and away we go for a great day out regardless of how tight money is. I'll definitely be renewing them when the time comes, but will make sure I get a good deal not just auto renew.
On a similar topic, I've bought another farm pass from Gr0up0n also, so we can continue going there all year too :T. Can't wait for summer :D.

EH and NT were the best things we spent money on when our family were little. It meant we could go out every weekend and not worry about having money to spend. We used to take picnics and didn't worry about the weather either. All the boys loved the castles the most. I bet your boys do too.
