Vienna (and Austria) on the cheap ?

Hi all,

As above really.

Anyone got any tips on how to do Vienna cheaply. Am thinking of Vienna for the weekend.somewhen this year and whilst flights are reasonably cheap as chips, accommodation doesn't seem to be.

Any ideas ?

Regards,

Adam Brunt

The caveat on this advice is that it's over 10 years since I went to Vienna!

You don't mention what your budget is, but we found it cheapest to get a room in a small pension on the outskirts of Vienna, near the woods. It was about a 10min bus journey to get the metro, and then about another 10-15m to get to the centre of Vienna. The metro ran until after midnight, and even at that time, it was only around 10 minutes to wait for the train - at peak it ran roughly every 2 minutes.
